Gleisberg 112.Literatur: Städtische Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz (Hrsg.): Wolfgang Mattheuer zum 70. Geburtstag – Graphikretrospektive 1948-1997, Sammlung Hartmut Koch, Chemnitz, S. 79, Nr. 100 Eine Sonne, eine Straße und eine leicht zerklüftete Landschaft. Dies ist, was wir zunächst erblicken, wenn wir Wolfgang Mattheuers "Sonnenstraße" betrachten. Doch die "Sonnenstraße" ist weit mehr als nur eine Straße, sie wird dem Titel mehr als gerecht, denn die kraftvolle, obschon etwas tief stehende Sonne ist das bestimmende Element des Blattes und verwandelt die Straße mit ihrem gleißenden Licht erst in diese "Sonnenstraße". Der Holzschnitt entstand im Jahr 1976 und man kann dieses Werk im Zusammenhang mit den aktuellen Geschehnissen in der DDR betrachten. Es war ein Schicksalsjahr, dass politisch gut begonnen hatte. Der Palast der Republik wurde als "Volkshaus" eröffnet und bei den Olympischen Sommerspielen in Montreal konnte die DDR vierzig Goldmedaillen erringen. Vertreter der kommunistischen Länder tagten in Ost-Berlin und Bonn handelte mit der DDR ein Abkommen über die Verbesserung der Post- und Fernmeldeverbindungen aus. Doch wo Licht ist, ist auch Schatten. Der Pfarrer Oskar Brüsewitz zündete sich vor der Michaeliskirche in Zeitz aus Protest gegen die SED selbst an (und erlag seinen Verbrennungen), der Regimekritiker Robert Havemann wurde mit Hausarrest belegt und der Liedermacher Wolf Biermann noch während einer Konzertreise im Westen ausgebürgert. Brauchte nicht gerade eine solche Zeit einen Lichtblick? Mattheuers "Sonnenstraße" ist ein solcher. Und die sie wird für Mattheuer einige Jahre später nochmals aktuell. 1988 entstand das Gemälde "Sonnenstraße I", wobei Mattheuer auf den Holzschnitt zurückgriff, jedoch die Straße nun fast explosiv in leuchtenden Farben darstellte. Eine Veränderung im Lande war spürbar. Und diese vollzog sich mit dem Mauerfall und der Wiedervereinigung. Weswegen das Jahr 1990 gleich zwei weitere "Sonnenstraßen" hervorbrachte, nämlich Version "II und "III", wobei die "Sonnenstraße II" jene ist, die unserer "Vorlage" aus dem Jahr 1976 am nächsten kommt.

Auf den Rückseiten sind Bilder des Veteranen mit der erbeuteten Jacke abgebildet.Martin Bormann (17. Juni 1900 - 2. Mai 1945) war Leiter der NS-Parteikanzlei. Er erlangte immense Macht im Dritten Reich, indem er seine Position als Privatsekretär Adolf Hitlers nutzte, um den Informationsfluss und den Zugang zu Hitler zu kontrollieren.Bormann schloss sich 1922 einer paramilitärischen Freikorps-Organisation an, während er als Verwalter eines Großgrundbesitzes arbeitete. Er trat 1927 in die NSDAP und 1937 in die SS ein. Er arbeitete zunächst im Versicherungsdienst der Partei und wechselte im Juli 1933 in das Büro des Stellvertreters von Rudolf Hess, wo er als Stabschef fungierte.Bormann nutzte seine Position, um eine umfangreiche Bürokratie aufzubauen und sich so weit wie möglich in die Entscheidungsfindung einzubringen. Januar 1945 mit Hitler in den Führerbunker in Berlin zurück, als sich die Rote Armee bereits der Stadt näherte. Nachdem Hitler sich das Leben genommen hatte, versuchten Bormann und andere am 2. Mai aus Berlin zu fliehen, um der Gefangennahme durch die Sowjets zu entgehen. Seine Todesumstände wurden nie geklärt. Er beging wahrscheinlich auf einer Brücke in der Nähe des Lehrter Bahnhofs Selbstmord. Eine Leiche wurde erst 1972 gefunden und als angeblich authentisch bestätigt. Bormann wurde vom Internationalen Militärgerichtshof in den Nürnberger Prozessen 1945 und 1946 in Abwesenheit zum Tod durch den Strang verurteilt. Martin Bormann (17 June 1900 ? 2 May 1945) was a prominent official during the Third Reich and head of the Nazi Party Chancellery. He gained immense power within the Third Reich by using his position as Adolf Hitler?s private secretary to control the flow of information and access to Hitler. Bormann joined a paramilitary Freikorps organisation in 1922 while working as manager of a large estate. Bormann joined the Nazi Party in 1927 and the SS in 1937. After Hitler committed suicide, Bormann and others attempted to flee Berlin on 2 May to avoid capture by the Soviets. Bormann probably committed suicide on a bridge near Lehrter Station. The body was buried nearby on 8 May 1945, but was not found and confirmed as genuine until 1972. Bormann was tried in absentia by the International Military Tribunal in the Nuremberg trials of 1945 and 1946. He was convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity and sentenced to death by hanging.
