“Zeppelin, The Story of a Great Achievement”. By Harry Vissering, 1922. Chronicling the development of Count Zeppelin’s airships and aircraft from the first to the last, with numerous photographs and diagrams. The fly-leaf signed by the author and dated 1923. Also bearing stamps of the U.S. Post Office Department Library and surplus stamp of the U.S. Library of Congress. Also “Airship Design” by Charles P Burgess, Ronald Aeronautic Library 1927, with Smithsonian Institution Office Library cancellation stamp, being a technical work on the construction of airships. GC. A group of documents of airship interest. Guest list- ‘5 Sudamerika-Fahrt 1936’ Hindenburg Rio De Janeiro 30th May. Guests included many notable names. Damaged and stained. Plus a photo post card of Hindenburg over hangers. Cashet on reverse of visit to sheds. A French leaflet in the form of the French flag ‘Come and see a Dirigible’. 2 leaflets, German and French about ‘finder sending back a piece of meteorological apparatus, with the reward card that was attached to the equipment/balloon. 2 interesting letters on Deutsche Zeppelin Reederei headed notepaper. One dated 15th June 1937. Thanking a well-wisher on the loss of Hindenburg, 6th May 1937. Plus another DZR letter dated August 1937 similar. Plus 1968 news cutting about Heinrich Kubis, (chief steward on the Hindenburg) on his survival of the disaster. Also a card advising the various costs of airmail of cards and post cards on airships. QGC-GC some creasing/damage. Plate.42
An interesting historical letter from the Hindenburg’s Post Master Max Zabel (signed). The letter certifies that a letter carried on the Hindenburg’s last flight intended for Mr Milton L Stein could not be delivered as it was destroyed with other mail when the airship met with an accident shortly before landing at Lakehurst, May 6th 1937. A Colt `Peacemaker` SAA revolver, Rough Riders 1891, U.S. marked no.138236, .45 caliber, 5.5" barrel, blue finish, non-matching numbers, accompanied by an authentication certificate from Colt Archive Properties LLC., stating that this gun was originally sold to the United States Government and delivered to the U.S. Government Inspector at the Colt plant on February 17, 1891, and was one of 200 same type guns in shipment Note: This revolver was carried in the Battle of San Juan Hill on July 1st, 1898 by Sgt. Albert P. Wright, Regimental Color Sergeant of Colonel Theodore Roosevelt`s 1st US Volunteer Cavalry, better known as the ``Rough Riders``. One of the most famous volunteer fighting forces in American history, the Rough Riders` heroic actions at San Juan Hill were key to the American victory in the Spanish American War. Originally from Yuma, AZ, Sergeant Wright served with Roosevelt in Cuba from May 1st, 1898 until September 1898, when the regiment was mustered out. He held the revolver in his possession after the war, and it then passed to Herbert D. Lore, proprietor of the Painted Desert Inn and Lore Trading Post in the Four Corners region. Handed down in the Lore family by descent, it remains in as-found condition. Provenance: By repute: Carried by Albert P. Wright of Yuma, Arizona. Acquired thereafter by Herbert D. Lore of the Lore Trading Company in Painted Desert, Holbrooke, Arizona. By descent in the Lore family to present owner. Condition: Good condition overall. General wear commensurate with age. Mechanically sound with evidence of light use and no restoration. Nickel finish shows wear and areas of light chipping. Screw heads appear intact and unworn. A 1936 Garmisch-Partenkirchen Winter Olympic Games welcome pack issued to the British figure skater Geoffrey Sidney Yates, named to the front cover with his competitor’s number 319, a small ribbon tied folio containing full competitors’ list, official guide book, preview booklet and official postcards Geoffrey Yates (1918-2007) is best remembered as a highly respected international judge and referee in the post-war era.
