APO Corps), K.S.A. with usual two clasps (581 QR: MR: Sgt. A.P.O.C.), Coronation Medal 1911, EVIIR Volunteer Force Long Service Medal, Territorial Decoration, First five mounted for wearing; together with a mounted set of corresponding miniatures (the Q.S.A. with clasp for Orange River Colony instead of O.F.S.).
A rare Troika Pottery rectangular section lamp base, overall brown glazed, each side with a circular matte textured geometric boss, decorated by Alison Brigden, height 30cm. Provenance: This was given to Alison Brigden by Lesley Illsley in 1983. They took several weeks to make and, because of this, never went into general production. (See illustration) Condition Report: lot 944A - Only hidden firing flaws. Firing flaws as can just be seen on inner cylinder. I expected to find small chips but there is no post production damage
Grenadier Guards Georgian Officer’s bearskin plate circa 1817. A very fine and exceedingly rare example. Rich gilt semi-circular plate bearing crowned Garter, with central partial post 1816 Royal Arms, superimposed on Prince of Wales plumes with Lion and Unicorn supporters. Reverse with three short screw posts; small hole to lower extremities to facilitate sewing to bearskin. VGC
Irish Guards post 1900 Officer’s waist belt clasp. A fine and scarce gilt example of special pattern with matching numbers to both halves. Silvered circlet inscribed “Irish Guards” and ornamented with shamrock sprays; the seeded gilt centre mounted with silver Star of the Order of St.Patrick mounted with pierced gilt motto circlet on light blue enamel ground. To the voided centre, St.Patrick’s cross in red enamel on a white enamel ground. To the centre of the cross, a green enamelled shamrock with three gilt Crowns. Ornate ends ornamented with shamrock and Maid of Erin Harp. Minor defects to enamel, generally VGC.
18th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers Victorian post 1881 Officer’s helmet plate. A fine and scarce die-stamped blackened example with burnished highlights. Garter star mounted with laurel wreath surmounted by a Guelphic crown resting on a tablet “Middlesex”. Within the wreath a Maltese cross, with ball finals to the tips and lions between the arms; to the centre, a plain applied dome within a circlet “Rifle”; between the base of the cross and the wreath, a scroll “Regiment”. Three of four loops to reverse. VGC Raised at Paddington in 1860 as 36th Middlesex RVC it became the 18th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers in 1880 and joined the Rifle Brigade 1881. Within a laurel wreath surmounted by a Guelphic Crown resting on a blank tablet, a Maltese cross, ball finials to the points, lions between the arms. To the centre, within a circlet inscribed “Rifle Brigade”, a crowned strung bugle. Mounted on the base of the wreath, a scroll inscribed The Prince Consort’s Own”. Four screw posts to reverse and complete with backing plate. Old strengthening repair to junction of crown and wreath one side not affecting appearance. Generally VGC. Rifle Brigade post 1905 pouch belt plate. A fine die-stamped white metal example. Within a laurel wreath surmounted by a crown resting on a tablet inscribed “Waterloo”, a Maltese cross with lions between the arms and ball finials to the tips. To the centre, within a circlet inscribed “Rifle Brigade”, a crowned strung bugle. The arms of the cross bear numerous honours of the Regiment, the wreath bears a further 14 honours. Between the bottom arm of the cross and the wreath, a scroll inscribed “Peninsula” and “Pyrenees”; across the base of the wreath, a scroll inscribed “The Prince Consort’s Own”. Indian Army. 20th Lancers post 1922 Officer’s charger’s horse harness ear boss. A fine scarce circular brass example mounted with silvered crossed lances with crown on intersection, “XX” between the butts, “Lancers” scroll across the butts. Single flat loop to reverse. VGC 20th Lancers formed in 1922 from 14th Murray’s Jat Lancers and 15th Lancers (Cureton’s Multanis).
24th (Post Office) Middlesex Rifle Volunteers post 1880 Victorian Officer’s pouch badge. A fine ornate die-stamped silvered example. Within a laurel wreath surmounted by an Imperial style Crown; a Maltese cross with balls to the tips and dragons between the arms. The top and bottom arms of the cross bear the three seaxes of Middlesex. The left and right arms bear the letter “T” surmounted by the Crown of HSH the Duke of Teck (Hon. Colonel of the regiment from 1880 until his death in 1900). Between the top arm of the cross and the Crown, a Bishop’s mitre; below the lower arm and the wreath, a strung bugle. To the centre of the cross, a circlet inscribed “Saint Martin’s le Grand” encircling a shield. Across the base of the wreath, a tri-part scroll inscribed “Post Office, XXIV Middlesex Rifle Regiment”. Three screw posts to reverse. VGC 49th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers formed at the General Post Office 13th February 1868; renumbered 24th in September 1880. 24th supplied personnel for the Army Post Office Corps for active service overseas. A good scarce die-stamped brass example of star pattern mounted with crowned circlet “Canadian Militia, “36” to centre. Two flat loops from overlay extend through the star. Silvered crowned star mounted with rich gilt laurel wreath with scroll inscribed “Salford” on its base. Gilt Sphinx on Egypt tablet to centre. Two screw posts to reverse. GC Formed at Salford 5th March 1860. Renumbered 17th in 1880 and in 1881 joined Manchester Regiment as one of its VB’s. However in March 1886 transferred to Lancashire Fusiliers as its 3rd VB. VGC Originally raised as 24th in 1860 by Customs Officers in the London Docks, renumbered 15th Middlesex RV in 1881 becoming a VB of the Rifle Brigade amalgamating with 2nd Tower Hamlets to form 17th Bn. 19th Middlesex (St. Giles & St. George’s Bloomsbury) Rifle Volunteers Victorian post 1880 Officer’s pouch belt plate. A fine die-stamped silvered example. Resting in an oak wreath, a crowned strap inscribed “19th Middlesex Rifles”; shield from the Royal Arms to centre. On the wreath, below the tail of the strap, a scroll inscribed in old English “GGB”. Two screw posts to reverse which reveals a 37th plate with applied 19th numerals. GC 37th (St. Giles & St. George’s Bloomsbury) Middlesex Rifle Volunteer Corps raised in 1860; redesignated 19th Middlesex RVC in 1880; 1881 became a VB of the Rifle Brigade but without a change in title; merged with 1st Mx.
