Germany - Collections : 1872-2016 Greater Germany - 1872-2016 - Seriously Impressive Substantially Unmounted Mint plus FU to VFU / cto Collection, offered intact as so deserving of continuation, a lifetime's work, assembled at extraordinary cost - housed in 16 high quality hingeless (for Mint) lighthouse albums plus 7 albums, few additional hagners of 2016 New Issues and an envelope of 2016 booklets + MS. Stated to catalogue in excess of GBP£100,000 SG (though Cat Value not checked). Substantially a UM collection shadowed by used (generally fine, later CTO) - includes Empire from eagles (sparse - not UM) through Third Reich, almost all UM, into Zones (some 1st WW Occupations) + Bund + Berlin + Saar (UM only). Scope for continuation / development in used abroad (very weak), scarcer material (although the collection does include some high value material with odd proof of purchase from respected suppliers. Bund 'Posthorns' set appears genuine UM (but strangely some signs of light toning - almost never observed throughout the rest of the collection when checked. Checking / turning over mint issues only the very odd stamp appeared to be hinged. As the collection moves into Re-unification and the Euro - significant expense has been incurred keeping this up to date through to 2016 with UM / CTO / even booklets - so more recently high Euro 'Face value' still current. Bearing in mind the overall high quality, huge expense in stamps and albums - this is a collection that we would truly like to see go to a good home. When one considers the present 'Brexit' weakness of the GBP against the Euro it would seem that now may be the ideal moment to acquire such an extraordinary collection. Thoroughly enjoyed viewing and describing by Describer - Please call for further information - free image downloads of significant areas available upon request - delivered free to UPA Loyalty Post-Free bidders in the UK, VERY HEAVY LOT - OVERSEAS BIDDERS PLEASE ENQUIRE FOR SHIPPING COSTS which may be relatively significant but meaningless against the overall value of this remarkable collection.

British Special Operations Executive (S.O.E) War-Time Propaganda Forgery German Postcard, these cards of which there are other types, were printed by the special Operations Executive (SOE) and were “Franked” with British Forgery of the 3 Reichspfenig definitive stamp (Hitler head) issue of 1941. The format and text were designed to lower the morale of the German Population, in this case by contrasting the Food Rationing Scales that were available to the Cadres of the National Socialist Leadership to those that were available to the normal population. On the obverse of the card were printed by SOE what the Ration Scale allowed to the Political Leadership consisted of (by Decree of the State Food Secretary Backe of 26.I.1943) To the reverse was a statement by Dr Robert Ley in his office as National Housing Minister (which was reported in the Newspaper “Der Angriff” of 12.10.1943)  in which he claimed to be an ordinary “consumer” on the same Ration Scale as the rest of the population. Outstanding WW2 Italian Campaign Gothic Line Military Medal (M.M) Group of Five Awarded to Lance Corporal J O’Connor Grenadier Guards, Who Single Handily Charged an Enemy Position Waiting Until He Was Just Four Yards Away Before Emptying His Tommy Gun Magazine Into Them, Killing Three, Wounding One and The Remaining Four Ran Screaming Away. Group consists of George VI Military Medal (M.M) “2614553 L Cpl J O’Connor G Gds”, 1939-45 star, Italy star, Defence medal and 1939-45 War medal. The medals are swing mounted for wear. Accompanying the medals are the original Buckingham Palace forwarding slip, 2x typed letters sent to his mother regarding him receiving the Military Medal, newspaper cutting relating to his award and his brass Grenadier Guards cap badge. Private James O’Connor was born in Manchester on 25th January 1915. He enlisted in the Grenadier Guards on 2nd May 1935. In July 1935 he was found to have lied on his Attestation papers as he failed to give information about previous service with the Royal Navy. He was consistently a badly behaved soldier being charged with numerous offences in both pre-war years and during wartime, some of these include numerous absent without leave, being drunk in Buckingham Palace Road, making an improper remark to an NCO, plus other offences. He spent 8 months at HM Prison Manchester for Shop Breaking and Larceny. He was finally posted for service in North Africa on 10th May 1943 serving through into the Italian Campaign before being posted back home and then for just under a year with the British Army of the Rhine. Being released from service in 1946. His award of the Military Medal was an Immediate issue and appeared in the London Gazette 8th February 1945, the citation is as follows, “On 5th Sept 1944 in a daylight patrol on M POMINO L/Cpl O’Connor was ordered to take his section round an enemy M.G post in order to bring fire to bear to a flank. On the way the section had to cross a piece of open ground which was being sprayed with enemy M.G bullets. L/Cpl O’Connor skilfully manoeuvred his section across this without loss and managed to place himself between the enemy M.G post and their main positions. He then, on his own initiative and without orders from the patrol leader, rushed in single handed on the enemy post in which there were seven Germans. He held his fire until four yards off and then emptied his Tommy-Gun magazine into the enemy, killing three, wounding one. The remaining four ran screaming away. Although the object of the patrol, which had been to dominate the ridge by offensive patrolling, had been achieved, L/Cpl O’Connor led his section at a further post on the reverse slope of the hill and succeeding in wounding at least two Germans with Bren fire. During this episode, L/Cpl O’Connor’s complete disregard for his own personal safety was an example to all and was largely responsible for the success of the patrol.”
