Lot 229

1946 AJS Model 18 500ccReg. no. HAS 309Frame no. 5862Engine no. 46/18 1282Associated motorcycles announced its post war range of AJS and Matchless heavyweight singlesin June 1945 and both were made in the same London factory from 1945 to 1966. Housed in arigid frame with teledraulic front forks, the reliable overhead valve engines coupled with a four-speed gearbox were considerably lighter than the later swinging arm models and were, although not fast, a lovely bike to ride. This particular bike was purchased new by the vendor’s father on returning from the war and thereis a lovely three-page article from ‘Real Classic’ magazine depicting the history of this machine andthe vendor’s search to return it to the family home. Unfortunately, due to ill health and the inability to continue riding, the vendor has decided to sell the bike for someone else to enjoy as he and hisfather have done.In lovely, oily, unrestored condition, showing the patina that only comes with cared for use, this AJS comes with a box file of manuals, receipts, the magazine article and its current V5C.
