[ Michael Collins, 1890 - 1922, Irish revolutionary, soldier and politician ] A 1916 Irish Republican Proclamation of the Republic or Easter Proclamation poster, "Poblacht na h Eireann, The Provisional Government of the Irish Republic to the People of Ireland", bearing the autograph signature of Michael Collins, 68 cm x 45 cm. [The Proclamation of the Irish Republic was read out at the General Post Office in Sackville Street (O'Connell Street), Dublin, on Easter Monday, 24 April 1916. Copies of this poster were pasted up around the city. The lot includes hand-written provenance provided by the vendor (who is happy to be contacted by the buyer). It states the posted was given by Collins to a tradesman whom he met while interned in an "open prison somewhere in the English / Welsh borders" [Frongoch internment camp, Merionethshire, Wales, where Collins was imprisoned following the 1916 Easter Uprising]]
Paul Lucien Maze (French, 1887 - 1979) A vivid, post-impressionist still life of red flowers in a blue and white vase, soft pastel, signed and dated 1959, in pen lined card mount and gilt frame under glass, 41 cm x 38 cm overall [Maze was considered 'the last of the post-impressionists', familiar with artists such as Monet, Renoir, and Pissarro. He developed a close relationship with Winston Churchill after meeting him in the trenches, teaching him and visiting him at Chartwell.]
A W Lloyd (1883 - 1967) "Our African Sister?" cartoon depicting an African woman with her baby, pen and coloured pencil, signed and annotated "Bay of Biscay, March '18", under a glass panel, 22 x 17 cm [Lloyd started drawing cartoons for Tariff Reform while studying at Oxford. After graduating he moved to South Africa drawing for the Rand Mail, Johannesburg Star, Sunday Post and Sunday Times in the Transvaal. During the Great War he fought with General Jan Smuts against the Germans in East Africa, and was awarded the Military Cross. After the war he retuned to England and worked as a political cartoonist for the News of the World, and later was better known for his illustrations for Punch magazine]
London.- Laing (David) Plans, Elevations, and Sections, of Buildings Public and Private ... including the New Custom-House, London ..., half-title, 45 engraved plates and plans, 12 double-page, bound without publisher's advertisements at end, scattered spotting, occasional faint marginal finger-soiling, contemporary half-calf, upper joint beginning to split but holding firm, a little rubbed, slight bumping to corners and extremities, folio, 1818.⁂ David Laing (1774-1856), was appointed Surveyor to the Customs in 1810, and 2 years later was asked to produce plans for a new customs house in London. During construction there were disputes over costs between Laing and the contractors, Miles and Peto. With the contractors cutting corners in order to try and save money, the foundations gave way in 1824 leading to the collapse of the central part of the building. As a result Laing was suspended from his post.

AN INDIAN DIAMOND, CARVED STONE AND JAIPUR ENAMEL KAIRI PENDANT The pendant with a central green foil backed carved stone, within a surround of polki diamonds, the reverse with red, green and blue floral enamelling with two birds, on a white ground, suspending a cultured pearl drop, on a cord necklace, with an additional cord necklace Size/dimensions: pendant 4.4 cm long Gross weight: 24.8 grams Condition Report: There is some wear commensurate with use, some tarnishing, some uneven surfaces to the enamel border. The pendant in our opinion is of modern manufacture, made within the last 40 years, probably made post 1980. The pendant length is 4.4cm long including the cultured pearl drop, it is 3.3cm long without the drop, 2.3cm wide. The green foiled stone is transparent, either clear hardstone or paste, due to the carving we have been unable to definitively identify the carved stone. The metal is testing as gold in the tiny patch that has been able to be tested, but due to the enamel and stones we are not able to scrape the settings, these pieces are usually filled with resin with a thin layer of gold over the top.
