PUNJAB MEDAL, TWO CLASPS GOOJERAT AND CHILIANWALA ENSIGN L J TROTTER 2ND EUR REGT Lionel James Trotter (1827-1912) who was to enjoy a post military career as a writer of some renown on Indian history, was the son of Edward Trotter of Calcutta and Sarah, daughter of James Dickey of Rendelstown, Co Antrim. After Charterhouse and Merton College, Oxford Trotter went out to India in 1847 as a Cadet in the Bengal Infantry. He served with the 2nd Bengal European regiment throughout the Punjab campaign, the 2nd Bengal European Fusiliers in the second Burmese War, 1853 and commanded the Subathoo depot during the mutiny of 1857. He retired on half pay in 1862. His books included A History of India, 1899, The Bayard of India a Life of Sir James Outram, 1903, The Life of Hodson of Hodson's Horse 1901 and several others. ++++

MAIL & POST COACHES TO ALL PARTS OF ENGLAND within wreath (DH.343 bis, in white metal); obv. similar to previous but reads G. JBBERSON, rev. as previous (DH.343 - 3, in bronzed copper, brass, and white metal), extremely fine or better, with some original colour, the DH.343 bis from the flawed obverse die, reverse with a few rim nicks (4) *second and fourth ex A.W. Jan the lot ex Baldwin’s vault These restrikes are by W.J. Taylor, c. 1870. Among the other old Soho mint punches and dies that Taylor acquired (see Peck, p. 221ff.) was a punch of the Ibberson 'small boar' obverse, which he reworked. The two restrike types both differ from the original striking in that St George’s armour lacks detail, his horse is without a saddle-cloth, his spear extends to below the horse's hind left leg and the dragon is scaleless. The reverse die common to both was entirely new.

A post 1902 officer’s full dress sporran of The Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders, embossed gilt cantle bearing regimental badge with silver plated centre, within thistle wreaths and battle honours “Peninsula”, “Egypt” and “Waterloo”, grey hair and 6 bullion tassels on gilt and blue cords, scarlet leather pouch, with black patent leather belt, in its chamois lined tin case with painted name on lid “B. Sprot 3rd Cameron Highdrs” Plate 3
A post 1902 Royal Naval officer’s sword, straight fullered blade 32”, marked “Made in England” on backstrap and etched with Royal Arms on one side and crowned fouled anchor on the other, in foliate scrolled panels, regulation brass hilt, retaining a little original gilt, the solid half guard basket incorporating crowned fouled anchor and with turn down inner portion which locks to scabbard, lion’s head pommel and backstrap, wirebound sharkskin grip, with gilt and blue knot in its brass mounted leather scabbard with 2 rings. GC (blade nicely cleaned over a few minor pitting patches). Plate 5

Wt. (without compact) 96 gm.Cigarette case lacks elasticated interior straps, dents and creases to silver cover of bottle. pinprick ding to base of compact.
A modern Italian silver candlestick to take a thick candle of approx. 4.5 cm. diameter, .800 standard, Florence, post 1968, campana-shaped capital on wide spreading circular base chased with scrolls and flowes on textured ground between triple flutes, 17 cm. high, wt. 262 gm.Good condition, no bruises, marked above foot rim.
A modern Portuguese silver dish, Porto, .925 standard, chased inside the scroll-stamped rim with scrolling foliage; another Portuguese silver dish, same assay office, standard and period, the ribbed wavy rim interspersed with fleurs-de-lys; an Italian silver specimen vase, .800 standard, applied with small foliate motifs centred by coral-coloured beads; and an Italian silver spot-hammered sugar bowl, .800 standard, Florence, post 1968, initialled "GG" inside base, first item 19.8 cm. diameter, wt. 549 gm. (4).First dish in good condition, second dish has couple of small shallow dings and vase has distortion and crease/damage to foot and distortion to neck rim. bowl in good condition.
