A pair of George I silver candlesticks by Joseph Bird London 1719 each raised on a spreading hexagonal foot tapering upwards to the knopped stem supporting the hexagonal sockets marked to the base and with the town mark to the socket engraved with armorials also with later unmarked nozzles 18.75cm high (stick only) 21.75cm (with nozzles) 26.75oz (31oz with nozzles) Family Records of the present owner indicate specifically in a 1947 inventory that the arms are those of Hafodunas and that their then owner had come by them as heir to his mother Mary Elizabeth Wynn Griffith whose own grandmother had been heiress of Penllech and Hafodunas. The (Wynn) Griffiths of Llanfairisgaer were extensive landowners in Anglesey Caernarvon and Merioneth. Members oftimes filled the post of Sheriff (the earliest recorded being that in Anglesey 1395/61) and Receiver General (of the Royal Rents) for North Wales (at various times from 1631 onwards). A collection of family papers rent rolls etc from the 16th century onwards is held in the National Library of Wales

OF GRAF SPEE INTEREST Two albums of various postcards and photographs taken by a rating aboard a R. N. Ship, giving an account of the Battle of the River Plate and the sinking of the Graf Spee and burial of her captain, also comprising photographs of various embarkations en route for the voyages of H. M. S. Shropshire and H. M. S. Ajax during the war and immediate post war period (2). * The Graf Spee was one of the most famous German Pocket Battleships. After the battle of the River Plate she sought sanctuary in Uruguay, but was returned . Her Captain famously scuttled the ship after leaving port, rather than face the waiting vessels of the R.N.
A post 1952 Tank Regiment car badge, the reverse inscribed 'Presented to Lt. Col. T.H. Gibbon O.B.E. by W.O.S. & Sgts. 6th RTKS', a brass bugle by Boosey & Co bearing inscription 'Presented to the 16th Battalion Tank Corps by Lt. Col. Hon. D. Bingham' and a modern skene-dhu by Nowill & Sons Sheffield.
The 1914-18 British War medal and the 1914-19 Victory medal to '2. Lieut. J. Evans', also paperwork to include discharge certificate, also a 1914-15 Star to 'Lieut. D.O. Evans. R.W. Fus.', the 1914-18 British War medal and the 1914-19 Victory medal to 'Lieut. D.O. Evans', died 12th February 1916 and buried at St Vaast Post Military Cemetery, Richebour L'Avoue, with the remains of the original boxes, a black enamelled badge detailed 'TVAC', a medallion commemorating the Investiture of Edward Prince of Wales, mounted as a brooch, cased and two 1935 Silver Jubilee commemorative medallions.

*Whistler (Rex, 1905-44). Original design for a tombstone, c.1926, pen and wash on paper, approx. 205 x 120mm, together with an autograph letter signed addressed to Miss Cynthia Lewin refering to the design, with orig. envelope post marked 15th Nov 1926, and with The Poetical Works of John Keats... by H. Buxton Forman, 1929, orig. pen & wash drawing to front blank entitled "To Clodagh with Love and Best Wishes from Rex W.", a.e.g., contemp. gilt dec. green calf by Bumpus, 8vo, and with two letters signed by Laurence Whistler, dated Nov 10th & 15th 1960, plus other related material Cynthia Lewin was born in 1906 in Cambridge. She died in 1938. She was profoundly deaf. On a skiing holiday in Switzerland she was buried alive in an avalanche, which she did not hear coming towards her. Clodagh Lewin was one of Cynthias three younger sisters. Clodagh was born in Cambridge in 1908 and died in Lancaster on 2001. She was an artist and a student at the Slade School of Art where she possibly met Rex Whistler. (-)

To be offered across Contemporary Art Evening, Day and Olympia sales in 2006, the collection of the late Peter Cochrane Documents the progressive and adventurous taste of an influential dealer and inspired collector. At Arthur Tooth & Sons in Mayfair, Cochrane was instrumental in introducing new European and American artists to a British audience. The champion of an emerging generation of post-war artists, Cochrane's collection comprises masterworks by Howard Hodgkin, Karel Appel, Jean Dubuffet and Asger Jorn among others and documents his special passion for new modes of abstract painting. Bryan Wynter, 1915-1975 Still life with tea pot And fish Pencil, watercolour and gouache 31x39.5cm.; 12.25x15.5in. (4) Executed circa 1950. To be sold together with three drawings on transfer paper by the same hand. The following works were a design for an unrealised lithograph in three colours. The colours were to be Rose Bengal with ultramarine, Burnt Siena with chrome organe and Hooker's Green. This group demonstrates the use of transfer paper for the making of colour lithographs during the late 1940s and 50s. It was probably commissioned by the Redfern Gallery and Millers Press to be sent to the Master-Printer Louis Ravel in Paris.
