1934 ‘RAILEX CVR’ only 8 cvrs are known. Under this service the Post Office undertook the entire transmission of a railway letter for an inclusive charge of 2/6d. Letters upto 2oz accepted and taken to the nearest railway station and sent to a station in Great Britain or Northern Ireland near to its destination where a PO messenger will pick it up and deliver it. The service operated in conjunction with the new Railway Air Service. This letter was taken by Air from Birmingham to Cowes and then by rail to Freshwater and messenger to the PO.

Pair late 18th century Chinese export armorial bowls painted with lion crest and 'JAC' monogram within green and gilt bands, 10.7cm diameter.See Howard page 709. This service was made for Captain John Goodall Canning (1756 - 1804), an East India Company Captain who was Captain of the Nonesuch sailing between Calcutta and Canton. In 1790 he ordered the service with the intention of sailing to England to marry Anne, who lived near Bristol but sadly all leave was cancelled due to the danger of War. He, in the meantime, held the post of Deputy Master Attendant in the East India Company until 1804, when he eventually sailed for England only to die on route on March 27th 1804 and was buried at sea. The service passed to his sister who married John Bawtree, a brewer of Wivenhoe and thence descended to Dame Catherine Hunt (1854 - 1948), a former Mayor of Colchester (1924 - 1925)
A 17TH CENTURY CLOSE-HELMET, the two-piece skull with turned and roped prominent comb, visor with one-piece sight with central division and peg raising post, drawn out upper-bevor pierced with circular breaths, rounded lower-bevor, all pivoting from two points surmounted with rosette terminals, all secured with swing catches, one shallow and one broad gorget, the latter with turned and roped edge and domed iron lining-rivets across.
