A post 1902 officer’s lance cap of the 9th (Queen’s Royal) Lancers, black patent leather skull, peak and top, gilt mounts including simulated ropework headband and rosette,in top corners, velvet backed beaded link chinchain and lion’s head ear boses, the rayed plate bearing R Arms and supporters, regimental title, 16 battle honours to South Africa 1899-1902 and silver plated AR monogram, leather lining, in its tin case with nameplate Capt J.H. Kemple, 9th (Queen’s Royal) Lancers, the name also in ink on the lining. Lance cap and tin both Very Good Condition, Plate 20. Note: J.H. Kemple, served as Riding Master with the Imperial Yeomanry in the Boer War. He was appointed Riding Master and Hon Lieutenant to the 9th Lancers in 1901, Hon Captain in 1911 and served with the regiment during the early stages of WWI.
A good post 1902 officer’s presentation sword of the Royal Horse Guards, straight fullered blade 37” by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, numbered 44349 (1913) on backstrap, etched with crowned GVR cypher, crowned RHG monogram with 8 battle honour scrolls, owner’s monogram C.G.V and “C.G.Vaughan from the Commandant and Officers of the Permanent Staff, Cavalry School, Saugor 1913” regulation plated hilt with applied brass design incorporating crowned RHG monogram, studs and twirls, buff leather liner, wirebound fishskin grip, in its plated scabbard with brass ornamental chape and fluted bands with hanging rings. Very Good Condition Plate 28. Note: C. G. Vaughan was appointed Hon Lieutenant and Riding Master to the Royal Horse Guards, 22nd October 1913. Good biographical details of service sold with the lot, also a photograph of Riding Master Vaughan from the Household Brigade Magazine and a copy from Wilkinson Sword Register of the sword details.
