THOMAS CORSAN MORTON (SCOTTISH 1859 - 1928), CALVES GRAZING IN A GALLOWAY LANDSCAPE oil on canvas, signed 39.5cm x 49.5cm (15 9/16 x 19 1/2 inches) Framed Note : Thomas Corsan Morton was a Scottish artist, known as one of the Glasgow Boys. Born in Glasgow, Morton worked briefly in a lawyer`s office, and went to Glasgow School of Art. After a period at the Slade School in London, he studied in Paris under Gustave Boulanger and Jules Joseph Lefebvre. He exhibited widely in the UK and beyond, often in exhibitions with work by other members of the Glasgow School, including Secessionist exhibitions in Munich in the 1890s. Morton was primarily a landscape artist. Some of his work came from summer painting trips with others of the ``Boys``. These included stays in Kirkcudbright and in Cockburnspath, James Guthrie`s home, in the 1880s. He taught landscape painting at the Glasgow School of Art, and assisted Francis Newbery with the life drawing classes. In May 1908, he was appointed Keeper of the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh. After retiring from that post in 1925 he became Curator of the newly established Art Gallery in Kirkcaldy, where he died in December 1928. He is buried in the Dean Cemetery, Edinburgh with his wife Amelie Robertson, whom he married in 1890. Glasgow Museums, The Hunterian Museum, Kirkcaldy Museum and East Ayrshire Council hold multiple examples of his paintings.

Collection of early 1900s England and Kent County Cricket players autographs and other famous men of the day c1911 – to incl the following cricketers D.W Carr (England & Kent) and together with and signed and laid down on the back by Field Marshall Roberts and, K L Hutchings (England and Kent) killed in action in 1916 both laid down and signed on the back by South Africa’s opening batsman Louis Tancred (who toured with S.A to compete in the first triangular match against England and Australia) Note: Field Marshall Frederick Sleigh Roberts, 1st Earl Robert’s decorated VC KG KP GCB OM GCSI GCIE KSt VD PC (b.1832 – d.1914) was a British soldier who was one of the most successful commanders of the 19th century. He served in the Indian rebellion, the Expedition to Abyssinia and the Second Anglo-Afghan War before leading British Forces to success in the Second Boer War.
