1st or King's Dragoon Guards OR's 1834-43 Pattern Helmet. A fine rare and impressive example of regulation pattern in brass metal, with acanthus leaf scrolls to sides of skull. A detachable lion's forepart finial and repoussé oakleaf decoration to sides of crest. Rayed post 1837 helmet plate on band inscribed ‘1ST OR KINGS'S DRAGOON GUARDS'. Complete with rosehead bosses supporting replacement ornate chin scales joined with lion's paw clasps. Rather worn and fragile leather internal headband lacking cotton upper element. Minor old restoration. GC
Queen's Own Glasgow Yeomanry Victorian 1847 pattern helmet. A magnificent and scarce post 1901 example of the 1847 (Albert) pattern worn by the regiment from 1848. Silvered skull decorated with gilt floral leaf design. The helmet plate comprises a wreath of Scottish thistles; within the wreath scrolling shield decoration surmounted by a King's Crown. A Thistle star is mounted with a gilt metal strap inscribed "Nemo Me Impune Lacesset". Within the strap to the centre a rampant lion. Rose head bosses support a gilt chin chain with leather backing. The plume holder of leaf design supports a black flowing cockerel feather plume with a gilt rose head boss. The interior retains the leather band, but the silk lining is absent. The helmet remains in superb condition, gilt bright,
East Kent Regiment 1878 pattern Officer's Home Service Helmet. A good post 1901 example of the Home Service blue cloth helmet complete with gilt metal cross piece, spike and rose bosses which support the velvet backed chin chain. To the front, a regimental pattern helmet plate, to the centre silver regimental dragon to centre set on a black velvet ground and also an applied silver tri-part scroll inscribed "The East Kent Regiment". The interior retains crimson silk topped, leather sweatband. Gilt badge and furniture dulled and matching. GC
Victorian Royal Navy Lieutenant Commander's cased cocked hat & epaulettes. A fine black beaver skin example, to the left side a black silk rosette with a single twist loop mounted with a gilt Victorian button to the centre. The cocked hat is edged with one inch black lace; at each end, bullion tassels with blue lines. The interior is with leather sweatband and silk pleated lining. Tailor's label for J. Gieve & Sons ... Accompanied by full dress bullion epaulettes with silver bullion fouled anchor and Compass Rose indicating the rank of Lieutenant Commander ... Also a full dress leather sword belt with gilt clasp and two lines of bullion. The clasp with a post 1901 device. Housed in the original metal and velvet lined storage tin. This with painted name of "M.J. Parkes Buchanan" Bullion remains bright GC It appears that Captain Parkes Buchanan purchased his cocked hat set second hand as he was appointed a cadet in the Royal Naval Colleges Osborne and Dartmouth (1910 - 1913) , he was appointed a midshipman in the cruiser HMS Minerva on the outbreak of Great War. During the war he saw service onboard HMS WEAR on patrol and other duties in the Gulf of Smyrna and off the Dardanelles April 1915 to January 1916 and in the battleship HMS Agamemnon and by the end of the war commanded the sloop HMS Veronica. Remaining with the peace time Navy in 1939 he was serving as Deputy Inspector of Naval Ordnance, Home Fleet. During WW2 he held various shore postings and retired in 1949. He records are held by the Imperial War Museum.

Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders Officer's dirk A very fine post 1880 example with fire gilt mounts by R & H.B.Kirkwood of Edinburgh. Plain polished steel clipped back blade with spear point. Polished bogwood grip carved with interlaced design, the reverse with crossed swords and Highland bonnet, ornamented with gilt studs and surmounted by an ornate gilt pommel containing a foiled citrine. Complete with original scabbard of black patent leather with rich gilt mounts supporting knife and fork both with foiled citrine. The mounts are of regimental design and embossed with Scottish thistles. The scabbard, knife and fork are all engraved with the initials N.F. Gilt remains fresh VGC. Attributed to Captain Percy William Norman Fraser DSO Killed in Action France 22nd February 1915. Commissioned April 1898, Lt April 1899, Captain 1902. Served with the regiment during the Nile Expedition 1898, South Africa 1900-1902 Awarded the DSO. Later served in East Africa 1903-04.

* JOHN NELSON (SCOTTISH 1933 - 2013), MEANDER acrylic on canvas, signed 76cm x 76cm Framed Note: John Nelson was born in Scotland in 1933 and died 2013. He studied contemporary art at Edinburgh College of Art from 1962 to 1967. During his time at Art College John Nelson was awarded a number of contemporary painting and drawing prizes including the Andrew Grant Scholarship. On completion of his studies, a Post Graduate Traveling Art Scholarship took him to France, Holland and Belgium, creating opportunities to exhibit paintings in these countries. From 1971 to 1996 John Nelson was an art lecturer at Stevenson College, Edinburgh. Nelson has variously been a member of The Glasgow League of Artists and chairman between 1975 and 1976. John was also appointed chairman of the Livingston Art Foundation and the Craigmillar Festival Society. John's vibrant and colourful works sit in many private and public collections all over the world including Kirkcaldy Art Gallery and Museum and The Scottish Arts Council. He took part in many exhibitions throughout Scotland every year, a testament to his enduring popularity, and regularly showed work at galleries in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Crieff, Perth, Aberfeldy and the Borders.
