Dower, each dissected and mounted on linen, all with hand-colouring, each approx. 1060 x 880mm., occasional surface dirt and spotting, folding into original red straight-grain morocco, gilt decorated borders, 8vo, edges rubbed, spines faded, S. A fine exhibition quality 5 inch gauge model of a 4-4-0 Great Western Railway Armstrong No 7 tender locomotive, based on the original design by William Dean. The copper boiler having fittings including steam regulator, water sight-glass, lever operated fire-doors, screw reverse and drains with associated copper pipework. No pressure gauge fitted. Simulated plank flooring to cab. The chassis with twin inside cylinders and Stephenson s reverse, fluted connecting rods and fitted leaf springs. The six wheel tender with fitted tool boxes, steps, hand-irons and guide rails. The model finished in traditional Great Western Railway green livery with fitted steps, hand irons, lamp irons and vacuum hoses with name plate Armstrong and crests to splasher. The model comes complete with display track and glazed display case on plinth. Locomotive and tender Length 158cm. Cab width 22cm. Height 38cm. Display case: Length 206cm. Depth 40cm. Height 75cm. -197 * This locomotive has never been steamed and appears to have been on display from the time it was built. * William Dean designer of the original full size locomotive was born on the 8th of January 1840 and died the 4th of September 1905 he was the second son of Henry Dean, manager of the Hawes soap factory in New Cross, London William was educated at the Haberdashers Company School. He became the Chief Locomotive Engineer for the Great Western Railway from 1877, when he succeeded Joseph Armstrong. He retired from the post in 1902 and was replaced by George Jackson Churchward. He designed famous steam locomotive classes such as the Duke Class, the Bulldog class and the long-lived 2301 Class.

A presentation silver-gilt cup and cover, by Carrington and Co, London 1911, tapering circular bowl with matted decoration, on a baluster knopped stem on a raised circular foot, the pull-off cover with a knop finial, engraved with the shield of Winchester College and an armorial inscribed 'Huberto Murray Burge per decem annos Collegii btae mariae Winton ppe Winton informatori ad Espisepatum discedenti amoris ac desideii sui signum poculum hoc d.d.magistri adsistentes XXXIII A.S MCMXI', height 36.5cm, approx. weight 29oz. Hubert Murray Burge KCV, (1862-1925) was an Anglican priest, headmaster of Winchester College, Bishop of Southwark and Bishop of Oxford. He was educated at Bedford School, Marlborough and University College, Oxford. His first post after graduation was as a Schoolmaster at Wellington College after which he was Fellow and Dean of his old college. He was Headmaster of Repton from 1900 to 1901 and then of Winchester from 1901 to 1911, before his elevation to the Episcopate as Bishop of Southwark in 1911.

Scarce Post 1902 Army Veterinary Corps Officers Home Service Helmet, good example of the blue cloth covered cork home service pattern helmet with brass and enamel Kings crown helmet plate to the centre, leather backed linked chinstrap, gilt brass rosettes to the side and cross base with ball top. Leather and silk sweatband to the interior of the helmet. William Anderson & Sons makers leather patch to the top of the interior. Very good overall example of an unusual helmet.
Post 1902 2nd East Yorks Royal Garrison Artillery Volunteers Officers Home Service Helmet, superb example of the blue cloth covered cork home service pattern helmet complete with its frosted silver officers Kings crown helmet plate, leather backed white metal linked chin chains, silvered rosette side bosses, cross base with rosettes and ball top. Helmet is complete with the original leather sweatband to the interior. Paper label to the inside with pencilled name “Captn Moss Blundell”. The helmet remains in excellent condition with much of the frosted silver finish to the fittings. London Gazette 25th September 1908 states “Captain Frederick Blundell Moss-Blundell, from the 2nd East Riding of Yorkshire Royal Garrison Artillery (Volunteers) to be Major. Dated 1st April, 1908”.
1937 Pattern Battle Dress Blouse, which has three original khaki backed rank pips to the shouders and then post war applied insignis for the Royal Marines Commando and 3rd Infantry division. Black cord lanyard attached to shoulder board and pocket. Original size label to the interior. Good overall condition.
