Two Japanese carved boxwood netsukes 18th / 19th century, comprising a finely carved boxwood netsuke of a snail on an upturned wooden pail, signed 4.2cm. high; and a netsuke in the So School style, carved as a woodcarver hollowing out the interior of a length of bamboo, the himotoshi passing through a hole behind two leafy sprigs, signed, 4.4cm. (2)* Condition: Both in good condition with no faults.
A Japanese lacquered wood netsuke of a noh actor probably 19th / early 20th century, unsigned, in the character of the old man Okina, wearing formal attire and holding a fan, his robe lacquered with floral diaper designs in gold and deep brown, the back with two symmetrical himotoshi, 4cm. high.* Condition: Good condition. Minor wear to lacquer to edges from handling. No other faults.

In addition to the illustrations and descriptions of these 1,200 pieces, the catalogue contains also 8 colour plates showing the work of 8 selected artists, an alphabetical list of 897 signatures illustrated on separated plates. A glossary and an index complete the book".Sets of the edition limited to 1,000 copies rarely appear on the market; sets of the special edition bound in leather are exceptionally rare.
