A Japanese cherrywood okimono netsuke of a farmer, early 19th century, the figure with gurning expression and black stone inset eyes, holding a bucket in his left hand and wearing a loin cloth with tobacco pouch and pipe tucked into the back, his legs crossed, engraved two character mark with kakihan to the handle of the bucket, 15cm longCONDITION: He is missing all of the toes on his left foot, there is some wear to the carving all over and around the himatoshi and some occasional small black stains probably ink stains in occasional areas all over.
Three Japanese boxwood or cherry netsuke of oni, Meiji period, the first depicting a seated oni holding a paint brush and inkstone, with horn inset eyes, 4cm high, the second an oni and an emaciated man clambering on a lotus leaf, unsigned, 4.5cm, the last, which is probably in cherrywood, of an oni trapped inside a box, engraved two character mark 'Masatoshi?', 3.2cmCONDITION: Oni holding a paint brush - the boxwood is a little sun bleached otherwise in good condition, the second netsuke appears to have some slight wear to the carving, otherwise in good condition and the third netsuke is in good condition and is not damaged, the corners of the crate or box are carved to look as though they have chips on them by the netsuke carver.
