Various Oriental carved wood figures, including pig netsuke, Japanese musician, Shou Lao, largest height 16.5cm (10). The tallest figure has a natural split running through its head and body and his left foot has been broken and repaired.Figure with his arms in the air has a broken and partially reglued right foot. Missing fingers and front left foot.Other pieces are in good condition with some minor chips.
Two Japanese boxwood netsuke, Meiji period, one modelled as two mice eating a pumpkin, with one mouse nibbling on a stalk whilst the other moveable mouse appears from within, signed to the back, 5.2 by 3.8 by 4.3cm high, the other netsuke modelled as a mouse eating a cob of corn, signed to the base, 2.3 by 3 by 5.3cm high. A group of three Japanese ivory katabori netsuke, Meiji period, comprising a pair of vendors, one with a basket of fruit, holding a pomegranate aloft, signed, 5.2cm, and the other with a fish on his shoulder and a basket at his feet, unsigned, 4.9cm, and a man seated cross legged playing an instrument, unsigned, 3.7cm. A LOT OF FOUR SEALS, QING DYNASTY TO REPUBLIC PERIODChina, 17th century (the ivory seal) and late 18th to early 20th century (the other seals). An ivory seal of lobed oval form carved as an eggplant with a curved stem. A bone netsuke of columnal-cylindrical shape carved as a parasol with a ruyi-head finial. A rectangular carnelian seal surmounted by a luduan. A small cylindrical Beijing glass seal with a handle on top. All with piercings or ‘natural’ loops for attachment as a pendant. (4)Provenance: Dr. Ernst Eichler, Vienna, Austria. Thence by descent in the same family. Ernst Eichler (1932-2018) was a judge and poet, writing under the pseudonym of Ernst David. His works have been published worldwide and translated into many languages, including Japanese. Beginning in the late 1960s, he built an important collection of writing instruments, seals and other antique desktop objects, among them a small number of Chinese and Tibetan seals.Condition: Good condition with minor wear, occasional light scratches, some small nicks here and there, the ivory with natural age cracks.
