19th century AD. A pair of hollow tooth or bone netsuke carvings, depicting two of the Seven Gods of Good Fortune (Shichifukujin); each with two threading holes to the reverse. 38 grams total, 36-39mm (1 1/2"). [No reserve] Good condition, minor shrinkage cracking. Property of a Hertfordshire, UK collector; acquired London art market, 1960s-1980s.
A JAPANESE SILK PURSE AND KAGAMIBUTA, the silver-mounted purse finely worked with irises, the interior clasp signed, the kagamibuta joined by a silver chain and ojime, the central silver flower roundel within an ivory surround, Meiji, the purse 5.5" (14cm) long, the netsuke 2.25" (5.7cm) dia.
A detailed Japanese carved ivory netsuke modelled as a multi-storied dwelling with steps to one side, a pagoda to the reverse, and various trees and rocks, signed in red to a tableau to the base, width 6cm. CONDITION REPORT: Many additional images to show condition. Cracks to left hand side and a scratch to the roof.

A Japanese Meiji period carved ivory netsuke modelled as a rabbit and two turtles, length 3.6cm, and a small okimono of a rabbit grinding a pestle and mortar, height 3.2cm (2). CONDITION REPORT: Rabbit with turtles:two splits to back and area of right ear. Rabbit with pestle: marine ivory, loss to one of ears, small split near bottom pestle and one to left leg.
A Japanese Meiji period carved ivory okimono of a gentleman seated within a cage with hat and backpack by his side, signed to base, height 4.5cm, and a further carved ivory netsuke of a gentleman carrying a branch of bananas, signed to base, height 5cm (2). CONDITION REPORT: Cage man: no losses visible. Banana man: tiny chip to back sole. Minor areas of scratches and one small stained split. Rubbing to hair.
A Japanese Meiji period carved ivory netsuke, height 5cm, a carved ivory seal with white metal cap, length 8.25cm, and a small pottery figure of a seated man with associated plinth (3). CONDITION REPORT: Seal: losses to petals of flowers, tip of branch missing. Several hairline cracks the full height. Seated man: damage to both feet, hand, hat, and thumb. Crazing.

A JAPANESE WOOD AND METAL NETSUKE, 19TH CENTURY Depicting a miniature matchlock pistol, the iron barrel decorated with scrolling vines and flower mon in gold nunome zogan and set into a wood stock, the hammer decorated with a cherry floret at the hinge, with a ring to the underside, unsigned, 6.4cm. Provenance: formerly in the Virginia Atchley Collection. Cf. V Atchley and N K Davey, The Virginia Atchley Collection of Japanese Miniature Arts, N217 p.158, where this piece is illustrated.
