AN EARLY JAPANESE WOOD NETSUKE by Hachigyoku, showing Kanu standing upright and stroking his beard, the surface with a rich patina, signed beside the himotoshi, 18th century or earlier, 3.25" high. A netsuke artist of this name is recorded as working in the late 17th century. The present lot shows considerable age and may well be by the same hand, thus making this a rare survival.
