A collection of seven Japanese carved wood netsuke, 20th century, to include a frog on a tortoise, a monkey on a horse, a dog, a mouse and cat, a buffalo, a dragon, and a laughing figure, four signed, together with a pair of wood carvings of a figure on a buffalo, and a Japanese lacquer and gilt inro, 20th century, decorated with monkeys, signed (10).
A group of vintage items to include an early 20th Century leather and glass hip hunting flask, an ebonised Art Deco mantel clock of square form, vintage corkscrew in the form of a key, turquoise and carnelian stone duck figurine, Victorian miniature table lamp, stack of pigs netsuke type figurine group etc. Measures 14cm high (flask).
Japanese lacquer four-case Inro, 18th Century, decorated in gold, red and black with a Samurai on horseback and two Samurai fighting, with a polychrome carved wood figure netsuke and bead 7.5 x 7cms- Soame Jenyns Collection Condition Report & Further Details This lot comes from the collection of Soame Jenyns (1904- 1976) and is being sold by order of the executors of his younger son, the late John Jenyns. Soame Jenyns was Assistant Keeper of Oriental Antiquities at The British Museum from 1931-1967. He published several books including: "A Background to Chinese Painting" published 1935, "Chinese Archaic Jades in the British Museum" 1951, "Ming Pottery & Porcelain" 1953 etc.The interior of one section is quite worn.One section has residue from reaction with lacquer.The compartments open and close easily.Two end ones are a little loose.A few small chips to sides.Rubbing to gilding on end compartment.Crack visible where cap joins end sections.

Netsuke has some losses to the enamel and is slightly out of shape.Small inro has losses to mother of pearl on end pieces. Two butterflies wings have losses. Other butterfly has cracks.
