A late Victorian emerald and diamond five stone ring, alternately set with graduated rectangular step-cut emeralds and Swiss-cut diamonds, the 18ct gold mount with scroll engraved gallery, hallmarked for Birmingham 1895, maker's mark D&F for Deakin & Francis, ring size MCondition report: The emeralds are well matched, of fairly vibrant mid-green hues, but each of the stones contains multiple inclusions and some surface-reaching fractures that are visible to the unaided eye. The central emerald is chipped to one corner and each of the emeralds has small nicks/chips and scuffs to the surface. The central emerald measures approx. 3.5mm length x 2.8mm width. Diamonds are well matched, bright and lively, total weight approx. 0.05ct. The ring mount has general surface wear, scuffs and nicks throughout, with a solder join/repair to one shoulder and further solder joins to the back of the shank as a result of re-sizing. Hallmarks are clearly struck. There is a further worn mark to the shank interior, possibly a model number, which is not legible. Gross weight approx. 3.2gm.
A synthetic emerald and diamond three stone ring, the circular mixed-cut synthetic emerald in rubover setting, between two similarly set old-cut diamonds, yellow precious metal mounted, total diamond weight approximately 0.50ct, ring size QCondition report: Diamonds are well matched, bright and lively, but both stones are drawing a light yellowish tint and both have localised facet edge abrasion to the crown facets. One diamond also has a small central chip, positioned just outside the table facet. Estimated SI2 to P2 clarity (due to chip) and K to M colour, assessed mounted. The edges of the diamond settings are very heavily worn, with splits and losses to the metal. The synthetic emerald is heavily scuffed to the surface and may be a later replaced stone. There is a small split to one side of the setting and the ring mount has scuffs, scratches and nicks throughout, commensurate for use. The back of the shank has been re-sized with a later added section and has associated solder joins with porosity. Metal standard is unmarked and untested. Gross weight approx. 5.5gm.

The ring mount is relatively modern with surface wear throughout. Gross weight approx. 6.2gm.

Stern was founded in Brazil in 1945 by Hans Stern. Initially dealing in precious stones, they later moved to design jewellery. The firm is still family owned and stores located in Latin America, United States, Europe & Asia, although the headquartered and centre of manufacture is in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 1949 H. Stern store opened a store on the Rio de Janeiro docks, the point of arrival for international passengers on cruise ships. The firm is focused on creating and promoting an international interest in the finest semi-precious coloured stones, such aquamarine, tourmaline, etc., many of which are sourced ‘locally’, in Brazil.
