A Louis XVI, ormolu & porcelain mounted mantle clock, French, c1860. The rectangular painted porcelain dial, emerald green ground with a male flautist playing to a lady in a garden setting. The sides and base inset with floral painted porcelain panels. The case with porcelain and ormolu mounted urn finial, with lion mask & ring handles, on shaped stepped base with acanthus leaf cast motifs decoration, on four leaf cast feet. 8 day, 1/2 hr striking on a bell. The back plate stamped ‘Japy Frere, no 1425’. 31cm high.

Unusual Ushak ‘Fancy Turkey’ carpet west Anatolia late 19th early 20th century 15ft.4in. x 11ft.7in. 4.67m. x 3.53m. Very slight wear in places top quarter of rug somewhat time-stained one small ovoid bleach mark top left corner of field. Ushak carpets with emerald-green grounds are very unusual.
Sparta carpet south west Anatolia about 1920-30 11ft.8in. x 7ft.8in. 3.56m. x 2.34m. Foundations distressed lower end left with losses. This carpet is typical of those made in Sparta (Isparta) in the 1920s; characteristics include an all cotton foundation fine asymmetric knots (the only group of Turkish carpets to use such knotting) slight but marked warp depression and designs such as the one seen here based on north west Persian specifically Saruk carpets. This example has a particularly attractive palette with gold-yellow field and emerald green main border between red guards. The overall quality of these early examples of Sparta weaving is far superior to that of later rugs from the same source.
