- Extremely rare 5-speed manual and presumed a special order car - Only two recorded keepers from new and showing less than 20,000 miles - Reportedly 'very good to excellent' overall, Biscuit leather and MOT'd till Oct 2016 Any Series III XJ Saloon is a beautifully refined way to travel and the Daimler variant is a step further with its luxuriously appointed interior and legendary ride quality. In nearly all cases these cars are fitted with smooth but power sapping automatic transmissions, but to have direct control of the fuel injected engine's performance through the 5-Speed manual gearbox fitted to this example must surely make it a fantastic driving experience. This Daimler Sovereign 4.2 is described by the vendor as being in 'very good to excellent' overall condition, and this coupled with its rare gearbox choice and wonderfully period colour combination must make the car a special find for collectors of the Jaguar and Daimler marques. As well as the high level of standard Daimler features, this Sovereign also boasts an electric sunroof and electric height adjustment to the front seats. A copy of an October 1989 issued registration document on file shows that this 4.2 was sold new to a Mr Jepson of Whickham, near Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and photographs of it glistening on a driveway show it as having the personalised number plate THJ 15. The history file also contains a hand-written sales invoice dated November 5th 1989 from Mr Jepson to the car's second and current recorded keeper, a gentleman from a village near Nantwich, Cheshire. A letter from this gentleman written in January 2016 states that he acquired the car from Mr Jepson when the odometer recorded just over 19,000 miles, and shortly after purchasing the car he felt that it was too good an example to use as every day transport and placed it in dry storage in his barn. Sensibly he claims to have occasionally exercised the car on his property, but at the age of ninety-five, he has given up driving and the car needs to find a new home. The car was issued with a new MOT certificate on October 14th 2015 when the odometer recorded just 19,620 miles, which joins previous certificates in the file from May 1986 when the odometer recorded 7,975 miles, July 1987 at 11,694 miles, September 1988 at 15,973 miles, September 1989 at 19,224 miles, and May 1991 at 19,577 miles. This must present a very rare opportunity to acquire a Daimler Sovereign with manual transmission, such low recorded owners and mileage, and in such a fine reported condition.

Upgraded for its new role, the light commercial was apparently fitted with the engine / gearbox assembly and front disc brakes from a 1984 Citroen 2CV Saloon (plus other parts). Treated to a special paint job together with 'Gibraltar Confectionary' stickers, the 2CV also gained a wooden steering wheel, roof height cabin cooling fan, special seat covers, bespoke stainless steel bumpers and Citroen GS Pallas wheel trims. Understood to have been sparingly used by Mr Shacaluga and to have not formed part of his day-to-day delivery fleet, the Van was imported to the UK during 2007 and entered the current ownership some six years later. Titled as a 1984 vehicle, the light commercial is said to be underpinned by a genuine Citroen chassis and to have had its paintwork refreshed by the vendor. Rating the 2CV's engine, gearbox, electrical equipment, interior trim, bodywork and paintwork as being in 'very good / excellent' condition, the seller also informs us that it has benefited from a gearbox overhaul and replacement steering rack (the latter installed about twelve months ago). - Subject to a bare metal repaint this year and recently serviced - 115,450 recorded miles and offered with a fresh MOT - Previous long term ownership and both hard and soft tops The third generation SL (R107) was launched in 1971, and featured a two-door monocoque bodyshell with independent suspension all-round. The power-assisted steering was Daimler-Benz's own recirculating ball system. Braking was by discs at each corner - ventilated on the front. Over its 17-year reign, the R107 range was powered by six versions of Mercedes-Benz's silky smooth 90 degree V8. The 350SL option was available from 1971 to 1980, and produced 200bhp at 5,800 rpm and 211lbft of torque at 4,000rpm - sufficient to endow the model with swift, effortless acceleration and a top speed of 130mph-plus. '4286 PX' is finished in the perennially pleasing combination of Silver bodywork complemented by a Blue leather interior and rides on period correct alloy wheels. It is a right-hand drive example equipped with the generally preferred automatic gearbox. Its odometer currently registers 115,450 miles and this year the big Benz was treated to a respray and recent service. - Recently imported from America and now UK registered and MOT'd - Left hand drive, red leather, recently repainted, and engine serviced - Reportedly 'very good' (interior, gearbox) to 'excellent' (body, engine, electrics) The 190SL was introduced in 1955, the year Mercedes-Benz swept all before it on the Mille Miglia with the 300SLR, and the graceful new two-door convertible grand tourer was sold alongside the road-going version of the SLR, the 300SL, whose styling it strongly resembled. In fact, the underpinnings of the two cars were quite different and, while the 300SL had a purpose-built tubular spaceframe (W198), its smaller sibling was built on a shortened version of the 'Ponton' saloon (W121) platform, which was of a monocoque construction. The 190SL also boasted an all-new engine, an over-square SOHC straight-four unit of 1897cc that produced some 105bhp, which was sufficient to propel the car to a maximum speed of 112mph. The engine was coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox operated by a lever between the seats. The suspension comprised double wishbones and coil springs at the front and a coil-sprung swing axle at the rear. Steering was by recirculating ball and braking by power-assisted drums all round. Built to the highest standards and among the quickest comparable cars of the time, the 190SL featured a well-appointed cockpit, notable comfort for its occupants and relatively generous luggage space. Under the circumstances, even the steep asking price did nothing to deter purchasers. The convertible could be ordered with or without a removable hard top. There was also the option of a third seat that was placed transversely behind the front ones and big enough to carry an adult. The 190SL continued in production until 1963, when both it and the 300SL were replaced by the Pagoda. By this time over 25,000 190SLs had been built. This example of Mercedes-Benz's beautiful 190SL was imported from America by the vendor in 2015 and was immediately subjected to a repaint, the works of which were still to be completed during our photography; the chrome sill strips will be fitted before the sale. The vendor states that the paint is "new" and the body that it was applied to is "excellent" and features "great shut lines". The engine is also described as being "excellent" and reportedly features "great oil pressure" and we are informed that it will have a service before the sale. With UK registration having recently been granted by the DVLA this beautiful Mercedes-Benz just awaits a new owner and the summer motoring season ahead.

Lot 120

A 1953 Austin Healey 100, registration number TDD 47, chassis number BN1 1140267, Healey Ice blue. The sensational new Austin Healey 100 caused a major stir when it was debuted at the 1952 London Motor Show. The all new Healey sports car was intended to be a low cost high performance sports car aimed squarely at the US market. The 100 sourced its major components from the Austin Atlantic saloon including the 2660cc four cylinder engine tuned to 90 bhp which when installed in the lighter streamlined Healey resulted in a genuine 100 mph plus sports car. It was equipped with a four speed gearbox with the bottom gear blanked off which with the overdrive gave five usable gear ratios. The Healey 100 is a muscular sports car for the purest and its performance was not bettered by its successor the 100/6 and was only surpassed when the Healey 3000 became available in 1959. This particular example has been in the vendor's possession for a remarkable 41 years. The car was registered on 1st September 1953 and is arguably finished in the best colour combination of Ice blue with a dark blue interior, the same colour combination as it left the factory. It sits on recently replaced chrome wire wheels with correct style tyres and has a desirable Sebring louvered bonnet fitted. We are advised by the client that he had the Healey resprayed in 1976 and the car still looks bright. Recent expenditure includes the fitting of an aluminium fuel tank and a general health check at a Healey specialist. With a believed genuine 69,000 miles on the odometer, this rare early chassis number Healey 100 is eligible for some of the world's most prestigious sporting events including the Mille Miglia, Le Mans Classic and Tour Auto to name but a few. Now coming to the market for the first time in over four decades this extremely original low mileage Healey is certainly a must for any serious collection.
