Lot 112

1968 MG C GT Transmission: automaticMileage:Presented in the original metallic Riviera Silver Blue coachwork, this particular example occupies a famous part of MG history. Built in March 1968, it is understood that this car spent the next few weeks in the MG Abingdon Engineering Department being checked over before despatched to the Factory Press Fleet, featuring in the 7th November 1968 Autocar road test (a copy of this magazine is in the MG's history file) and various factory promotions of that year. Indeed, the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate dated July 1989 (on file) confirms the correct colour and destination after build. It has been fitted with adjustable electric power steering, partially polybushed suspension and Spax front shock absorbers. The carburettors have also been rebuilt and it benefits from a high-capacity MG Motorsport Ltd high-capacity radiator, a new water pump, rebuilt distributor, Pertronix ignition, 'Green Stuff' brake pads, a stainless-steel fuel tank and new fuel pump. The private vendor has had the car fitted with a correct period radio has also been installed along with H4 headlamps, new tailgate gas struts and (in the last 200 miles) a reconditioned automatic gearbox and torque converter. For safety, modern inertia reel seat belts have been fitted and the conversion to a single high-capacity 12-volt battery has taken place. Also included within the extensive history file are documents showing the comprehensive body and engine restoration. The fine example carries a current MoT test certificate valid until August 2024, an MGC workshop manual and a box of spares.

1989 Mercedes-Benz 420 SL Transmission: automaticMileage:110000These fabulous and popular models were launched at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 1985, the 420 SL convertible retained its predecessor's long-running Type 107 bodyshell virtually unchanged. The V8 engined newcomer supplanted the outgoing 380 SL model and was produced alongside the outwardly similar 300 SL 'six'. Its power unit was an enlarged and improved version of the existing 3.8 litre overhead cam Type M116 V8. The running gear followed Mercedes-Benz's established pattern, comprising of independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, while a new five-speed manual gearbox was offered alongside the existing four-speed automatic transmission. A mere 2,148 examples of this luxuriously equipped limited edition model were made between 1985 and 1989.   Originally registered on 7th January 1989, this beautiful Mercedes-Benz is presented with a restored bodywork combination finished in metallic grey with a contrasting cream leather interior and new black hood. Clearly a very well cared for example, the cream coachwork presents beautifully as does the chromework. The history file shows an extensive servicing history, many with Mercedes-Benz dealers and specialists prior to our vendor purchasing the car in 2019. After an extensive search for a V8 in this colourway our vendor purchased the car and continued the maintenance by replacing the bulkhead with items from the SL Shop, having the car fully repainted and recently having the gearbox serviced alongside its usual scheduled service, this is coupled to an MoT test certificate valid until June 2024 with no advisories, all handbooks and this six owner example also boasts the factory hardtop. With straight panels and good panel gaps. Supplied with a V5C registration document, this is a stunning colour combination example of the desirable V8 powered 420 with hard and soft tops for all year-round classic motoring.Interested parties should note that the private registration plate shown is to be retained by the vendor and a new, age-related registration issued instead which is understood to be F311 FKR  Interested parties should note that upon delivery our vendor noticed a slight knock when changing from first to second gear but has had no time to investigate further.
