Dorset Rifle Volunteers Victorian helmet plate badge c. 1878-87. Good scarce die-stamped example unusually in white metal. Crowned Maltese cross, lions between the arms, bearing circlet inscribed PRO PATRIA, strung bugle to voided centre. Top arm of the cross inscribed DORSET, the left RIFLE, the right VOLS with fasces to bottom arm. Three toned loops. VGC Provenance. Ex Hugh King Collection, Bosleys.

Circlet inscribed SECOND SOMERSET MILITIA; seeded centre mounted with gilt strung bugle. Universal pattern rococo belt loops.. GC Raised on 22nd February 1759 at Bath. Became 4th Battalion Somerset Light Infantry on Friday 1st July 1881.

Oxfordshire Light Infantry Edwardian Officer's helmet plate badge c. 1901-08. Good scarce gilt crowned star mounted with Garter and laurel sprays bearing silver scroll THE OXFORDSHIRE LT INFY, the black silk centre bearing a silver strung bugle. Replacement loops. Pile on velvet worn. GC All regiments had the option for Officer's plates to be in gilt or of gilding metal. The Oxfords invariable wore gilding metal.
Somerset Light Infantry Victorian Officer waist belt clasp c. 1881-1901. Scarce silvered and gilt interlocking example with matching numbers to both halves. Circlet inscribed THE PRINCE ALBERT'S; seeded centre mounted with silver bugle strung from JELLALABAD topped Mural crown, Sphinx on EGYPT plinth between the cords. Universal pattern rococo belt loops. (one a little bowed). Buckled, minor fracture to belt loop.

19th (Bloomsbury) Middlesex Rifle Volunteers Victorian Officer's first pattern forage cap badge c. 1859-63. Fine rare die-stamped silvered strung bugle with stylised WM cypher between the cords. Loops. VGC 19th Middlesex RVC formed 13th December, 1859 at Bermondsey by members of the Working Men's College. Renumbered 10th in 1880, attached to KRRC in 1881 then in July 1883 became 1st VB Royal Fusiliers.Provenance. Bosleys March 2007, Lot 69

Crowned DOMINE DIRIGE NOS tablet surmounting Maltese cross, the top arm inscribed SOUTH AFRICA 1900-02; central circlet 6TH BATTN CITY OF LONDON REGT with strung bugle to voided centre. Loops. VGC 15.12.1935 converted as 31st (City of London Rifles) Anti-Aircraft Bn. Royal Engineers and adopted RE badges.

Victorian 1st Manchester Rifles Attributed 1822 Pattern Officers Sword. This example was carried by Edward Peel Dewhurst. The straight single edged blade with etched decoration of a Crowned VR cypher, strung bugle device, Arms of Manchester, regimental title FIRST MANCHESTER RIFLES and name EDWARD PEEL DEWHURST. The forte with the retailer's details of Firmin & Sons London. The hilt is of the 1822 pattern sword with fixed guard and shagreen grip. Housed in a steel scabbard. The blade remains in very good condition etching clear, the hilt has been professionally restored. Lieutenant Edward Peel Dewhurst was promoted to this rank on the 20th December 1882. His HQ was at Hulme Manchester. He died in 1910 at the age of 57 years

Irish Westmeath Rifle Regiment of Militia Victorian brooch. Fine scarce die-stamped silvered example being the centre of an Officer's pre 1881 pouch belt plate viz. a Maltese cross, lions between the arms, bearing circlet WESTMEATH RIFLE REGIMENT with central strung bugle. Stout brooch pin. VGC Raised in 1793 at Mullingar as Westmeath Militia, redesignated Westmeath Rifles in 1855 and became 9th Bn. Rifle Brigade on Friday 1st July 1881. Gordon Cummings Collection.
Victorian Manchester Rifle Volunteers Officer's Sword. Avery good early example of the Rifles pattern. The slightly curved single edged blade is etched with a crowned VR cypher, a strung bugle with title "Manchester Rifles" The forte with the retailer's details of S & S Smith of Manchester. The hilt with a steel open guard incorporating a crowned Bugle device. The shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in leather and steel mounted scabbard. Etching very clear. Overall good clean condition.

Weller collection label; a geode section with a cluster of amethyst crystals, from Brazil; both halves of a quartz geode from Morocco; a group of thirty-five pyrite crystal nuggets of various sizes. 318 grams total, 9-57 mm (1/4 - 2 1/4 in.). Tinplate: A collection of three early 20th century, lithographed tinplate penny toys, to include: a man in a running action, a jester in a handstand action, and a boy playing a bugle upon a stick horse. Made in Germany, by unknown makers. Unstamped. Circa 1910-1920. Height approx. 3.5", 4" and 4.75". Good condition for age, appears to be fully original. Please assess photographs. (3)
A GREAT WAR PAIR OF MEDALS TO PRIVATE J. LOADER, LINCOLNSHIRE REGIMENT comprising the British War Medal 1914-20 and Victory Medal (both 32763 PTE. J. LOADER. LINC. R.), officially impressed, unmounted; together with a silver War Badge, numbered 387821; a British Legion enamel lapel badge; pocket New Testament; Twenty-First Division distinguished field conduct recognition card; wound Treatment Card; Certificate of Discharge; Character Certificate; War Gratuity Claim; further ephemera; a leather cartridge belt; and a copper and brass bugle. Note: James Loader was born at Moorlynch, Somerset, on 26th May 1896. He was employed as a farm labourer before enlisting at Taunton on 26th June 1915, and initially served in the Somerset Light Infantry (regimental no.19245). Having been transferred to the Lincolnshire Regiment, he was injured in the field, sustaining a gun shot wound to his back, which lead to his repatriation and a period of treatment at a military auxiliary hospital in Bootle. He was honourably discharged from service on 15th May 1918.
A White Star Line copper bugle Circa 1900 with seamed join, loop attachment to the rear and mouth piece. Stamped and engraved: 'Class A' over an 8 pointed star, 'Gold Medals For' 'Tone Tune Manufacturee', Registered Trademark', 'Est 1803' either side of a drummer boy with the words 'Beats The World' inside the drum. 'British Made By R.J.Ward & Sons, 10.St Anne St. Liverpool, 57728'. With the brass bell engraved: 'WHITE STAR LINE' The White Star Line shipping company was one of the most prominent shipping lines during the late 19th and early 20th century, focusing their business on luxury trans Atlantic travel between the UK and the USA. Among their fleet were famous ships such as; 'RMS Titanic' 'RMS Oceanic' and 'SS Laurentic'. They later merged with their rivals the Cunard line to form one company. Dimension: 28cm long including the mouth piece, horn opening is 10cm in diameter. Condition: Some denting to the copper throughout, small 1cm tear to the mouth piece socket sheath that joins to the main body of the bugle. (1)
Vintage Silver Plated Metal Bugle, with silver hallmarked mouthpiece, stamped manufacturer 'T Reynolds, 43 Chapel Street, Salford, Manchester', also '45th'. The latter refers to 45th (Sherwood Foresters) Regiment of Foot.We have no information to indicate the date of manufacture. There is no other link to the regiment other than the engraving '45th' on the bugle.
