Bloomsbury Rifles post 1881 Victorian Officer’s pouch belt plate. A fine die-stamped silvered example of Rifle Brigade pattern. Laurel wreath surmounted by a Guelphic Crown on a scroll inscribed “Bloomsbury Rifles”; within the wreath, a Maltese cross with lions between the arms and ball finials to the tips. To the centre; a Crowned strung bugle within a circlet inscribed “Rifle Brigade”. The base of the wreath mounted with a scroll inscribed “The Prince Consort’s Own”. Four screw posts to reverse, retains original backing plate. VGC 37th (St. Giles & St. George’s Bloomsbury) Middlesex Rifle Volunteer Corps raised in 1860; redesignated 19th Middlesex RVC in 1880; 1881 became a VB of the Rifle Brigade but without a change in title; merged with 1st Mx. 29th North Middlesex Rifle Volunteers OR’s shako plate circa 1860-65. A good very scarce die-cast stamped blackened brass example. Coiled bugle bearing “29” to partially voided centre. Two bent loops to reverse. Generally VGC. 29th formed 1st March 1860 at St. Pancras; HQ moved to Camden Town in 1864. Renumbered 17th in 1880 and became 19th London Regt. in 1908. 15th Middlesex (Customs & Docks) Edwardian Officer’s helmet plate circa 1902-08. A fine and scarce short-lived die-stamped blackened example. Large elongated star mounted with crowned laurel wreath; within the wreath, a Maltese cross, balls to the tips and lions between the angles, bearing circlet inscribed “Rifle” and ornamented by a laurel spray, strung bugle to centre. Wreath with four blank honour scrolls. Two of three loops to reverse. VGC Originally raised as 26th Middlesex Rifle Vols in 1860 by Customs Officers in the London Docks, renumbered 15th Middlesex RV in 1881 becoming a VB of the Rifle Brigade amalgamating with 2nd Tower Hamlets to form 17th Bn. 41st Middlesex (Enfield Lock) Rifle Volunteers Victorian post 1860 waist belt clasp. Fine rare die-cast blackened example. Circlet ornamented with laurel; lined centre bearing crowned strung bugle. Universal pattern rococo ends. VGC Formed 11th June 1860 from employees of the Royal Small Arms Factory at Enfield Lock as part of 6th Admin Bn. Consolidated as ÔH’ Company, 3rd MC RVC in 1880; 3rd redesignated 1st VB Middlesex Regt. in 1881 but did not assume the title until 1898. Hugh King Collection

Crowned Maltese cross, lions between the arms, bearing circlet inscribed “North Middlesex Rifles”; voided centre with stung bugle, “17” lodged between the cords. Three pinched to reverse. Within a Guelphic crowned laurel wreath, a Maltese cross, lions between the arms, bearing circlet inscribed “Bloomsbury Rifles”; crowned strung bugle to centre, “37” between the bugle cords. First Surrey Rifles Victorian helmet plate circa 1878-82. A good die-stamped short-lived white metal example, probably worn by Sergeants. Maltese cross with lions between the arms, surmounted by a crowned scroll inscribed “1803-1859”. To the centre of the cross, a circlet inscribed “First Surrey Rifles”; within the circlet, a strung bugle with “1” between the strings. Beneath the lower arm of the cross a scroll inscribed “Concordia victrix”. Three replacement hoop style loops to reverse. Generally VGC.
6th Durham Rifle Volunteers Victorian OR’s helmet plate. A good scarce white metal example. Eight pointed star, the topmost point displaced by a Crown. On the star, within a laurel wreath, a strap inscribed “6th Durham Rifle Volunteers”, strung bugle to centre. Three loops to reverse. VGC 6th Durham RV (Tyne Docks) formed part of 2nd Admin Bn. which was consolidated in February 1880 as 6th Durham RVC but redesignated 5th in November of that year. Provenance Bosleys December 2005, lot 53.
3rd (Accrington) Lancashire Rifle Volunteers Victorian 1860’s OR’s shako plate. A good scarce die-stamped white metal example. Crowned star bearing bearing circlet “Lancashire Volunteers”; centre mounted with strung bugle with “3” lodged between the cords. Two loops to reverse. Some verdigris.
19th (Bloomsbury) Middlesex Rifle Volunteers Victorian OR’s forage cap / glengarry badge circa 1859-80. A good scarce die-stamped blackened example. Crowned coiled bugle with “19” to voided centre secured by two vertical bars. Two loops ti reverse. GC 19th Middlesex RVC formed 13th December, 1859 at Bermondsey by members of the Working Men’s College. Renumbered 10th in 1880, attached to KRRC in 1881 then in July 1883 became 1st VB Royal Fusiliers.

Bugle strung from mural crown surmounted by green enamel scroll “Jellalabad”’ ““XIII” between the green enamel bugle cords. Enamel defective. Complete with pin fitting. GC. Height 21 mm
35th Regiment of Bengal Light Infantry Victoeian Officers’ Mess Plate. An attractive ten and a quarter inch dinner plate with gilt decoration and deep blue border bearing four cartouches with floral sprays. Central badge with incorporates strung bugle, laurel wreath and mural crown with honour scrolls. Slight hairline crack not affecting appearance otherwise GC.
First Surrey Rifles Victorian Officer’s regimental pattern helmet circa 1860. An extremely fine and rare example unique to this unit. One piece black fur felt skull with pronounced front and rear peaks surmounted by a slender gilt cruciform with supports the large fluted gilt spike. To the front a gilt crowned wreath, half laurel half palm, surrounding a circlet inscribed “First Surrey Rifles”. To the centre, a silver strung bugle with “1” between the cords. Across the top of the peak, attacked to the gilt lion’s head bosses which support the velvet backed chinchain, a narrow band of gilt metal. To each side, equidistant to the cruciform base and lion’s head, a small gilt rose. To the reverse, a slightly bigger rose with hook to support the chinchain in the upright position. Lightly quilted crimson silk adjustable wide sweatband. A few stitching faults to chinchain otherwise generally VGC. Formed as South London RVC 14th June, 1859 at Camberwell. From February, 1860 shown as 1st Surrey RVC. It would appear this was Surrey’s answer to the leather head-dress by 32nd Middlesex RVC known as “Six-foot Volunteer Guards”. Provenance. It is believed this was firstly in the late E.J Absolon`s Collection, and then in the late Bill Dear`s Collection.
Victorian Rifles Officer’s astrakhan rifle cap. A good example of black lambs wool by Hawkes & Co. of Piccadilly. To the front a swag of plaited mohair cord, which rises to either side and secured by a small blacked strung bugle device. To the front, a blackened curled bugle device, above a black cord boss bearing a Victorian Crown, the boss supporting a vulture and ostrich feather plume, with blacked silver ring. The crown of the cap is of dark green melton cloth ornamented with mohair cord. The interior with leather sweatband and silk lining. Complete with black patent leather chin strap. GC clean condition.
Rifle Volunteers Officer’s Victorian Field Service Cap Entirely of black cloth except for bright green cloth piping to crown seam. Bronze Victorian crowned Rifles buttons and black corded boss in front bearing white metal bugle-horn. Hooks inside for chin-strap. The lining with label of Hobsons and traces of the original owner’s signet seal.
King’s Shropshire Light Infantry Victorian Field Officer’s Forage Cap A rare example of the peaked pillbox, of green cloth with black oakleaf lace band and black purl button to top, edged with eight eyes of narrow black braid. Gold cord piping to crown-seam and patent leather peak edged with gold embroidery. Very fine badge of eight pointed white metal star bearing a silver bugle horn with regimental initials in the strings, on a translucent green enamel ground within a gilt circlet inscribed SHROPSHIRE. Roan leather internal headband with initials EMW, and quilted lining to top. Some stitching faults and moth damage, a small chip to enamel of badge. The initials EMW may well be those of Major (Hon Lt Col) Edward M Wakeman of the 3rd (Shropshire Militia) Battalion KSLI.
WW1 Imperial German JŠger Regiment No.8 Bugle. This dark brass bugle retains some of its field grey painted finish and appears to be complete with original black leather sling strap. This bears the clear stamp “JR 08 1916”. Now with some small holes to the brass, not effecting the overall appearance. GC.
Mid 19th Century Rifle Regiment Officer’s Sword. A good example the single edged slightly curved blade with etched decoration of a Crowned VR cypher and a strung bugle device. This device is repeated to the open Guard. The shagreen grip with twist wire binding. Housed in black leather and steel mounted scabbard. Retailed through W. Jones & Co, details to the forte. Overall GC clean condition.
