Rectangular gilt plate with canted corners mounted with silver star with squared tips; mounted on the star, a gilt crowned strap “Now or Never” with a Union wreath; domed centre mounted with silver coiled bugle with central “3”. Across the base of the star a bi-part scroll “Ava” and “Mahidpoor. Reverse with pair of hooks and studs. Wear to gilt otherwise VGC. Redesignated 3rd (Palamcottah) Madras Light Infantry in 1901.

Indian Army. 91st Punjabis (Light Infantry) Officer’s pouch belt plate circa 1903-22. A fine die-stamped unmarked native silver example by P. Orr & Sons Ltd, of Madras and Rangoon. Within a crowned laurel wreath, mounted on the backing plate, crossed dhas set on a crowned strung bugle with “91” above and “Punjabis” scroll below. Four screw posts to reverse. The backing plate impressed “ORR”. VGC 31st Madras Light Infantry redesignated 31st Burma Light Infantry in 1901 and then as 91st Punjabis (Light Infantry) in 1903 following Kitchener’s reforms. Became 3rd Bn. 8th Punjab Regiment in 1922.

1st King George’s Own Gurkha Rifles Officer’s 1913 hallmarked silver pouch belt plate. A very fine example by J & Co. (Jennens) bearing Birmingham hallmarks. Silver laurel wreath surmounted by a separate Crown. Laurel wreath bearing honour scrolls “Bhurtpore” “Aliwal” “Sobraon” “Tirah” “Punjab Frontier” “Afghanistan 1878-80”. To the centre, silver crossed kukris surmounted by “GRI” cypher; below the kukris a strung bugle surmounted by the numeral “1”. Below the wreath a scroll inscribed “King George’s Own Own Gurkha Rifles”. All mounted on a seeded backplate. Four screw posts to reverse, the backing plate. nuts and washers with matching hallmarks. Toned. VGC Became 1st Prince of Wales’s Own Gurkha Rifles in 1906 when he visited India, then 1st King George’s Own Gurkha Rifles when he ascended the throne upon Edward VII’s death in 1910.

Cooper loops East and West. Slight service wear. GC (KK 582) ... together with facing pair (good but not matched) of collar badge. (3 items) In 1861 the 2nd Madras (European) Regiment was transferred to the British Establishment as the 105th (Madras Light Infantry) Regiment, becoming the 2nd Battalion, The King’s Own Light Infantry (South Yorkshire Regiment) in 1881.

Within a crowned laurel wreath, a further wreath of laurel and palm encircling a curled bugle horn inscribed “Madras Light Infty” with floreate “105” to voided centre. Mounted on the lower junction of the main wreath, a gilt scroll inscribed “Cede Nullis”. Two loops to reverse. Minor split right of orb. VGC (KK 176) Became 2nd Bn. King’s Own Light Infantry (South Yorkshire Regt) on 1st July 1881.

Laurel wreath surmounted by a crown resting on a tablet inscribed “Middlesex”. Within the wreath, a Maltese cross, ball finials to the points and lions between the arms, bearing circlet inscribed “Rifle” with laurel spray above, to the centre a plain burnished dome with applied strung bugle. Between the bottom arm the base of the wreath, a scroll inscribed “Regiment”. Four screw posts to reverse, complete with backing plate. VGC Reformed as 10th (County of London) Bn. To the centre, within a circlet inscribed “Rifle Brigade”, a crowned strung bugle. Mounted on the base of the wreath, a scroll inscribed The Prince Consort’s Own”. Four screw posts to reverse and complete with backing plate. Old strengthening repair to junction of crown and wreath one side not affecting appearance. Generally VGC. Within a laurel wreath surmounted by a crown resting on a tablet inscribed “Waterloo”, a Maltese cross with lions between the arms and ball finials to the tips. To the centre, within a circlet inscribed “Rifle Brigade”, a crowned strung bugle. The arms of the cross bear numerous honours of the Regiment, the wreath bears a further 14 honours. Between the bottom arm of the cross and the wreath, a scroll inscribed “Peninsula” and “Pyrenees”; across the base of the wreath, a scroll inscribed “The Prince Consort’s Own”. Crowned blank tablet surmounting laurel wreath; centrally, mounted on the backing plate, a stung bugle with White Rose of York between the cords. Three screw posts to reverse. Bugle securing wires AF otherwise GC. Formed in 1860 with the HQ at Wakefield, became the 5th West York Rifle Volunteer Corps in 1880 and the 1st Volunteer Battalion, The King’s Own Light Infantry (South Yorkshire) in 1883.

Yorkshire R.V.C.”, strung bugle to voided centre. Three loops to reverse. VGC HQ Wakefield. Became 1st VB King’s Own Light Infantry (South Yorkshire Regiment) in February 1883.

Crowned star mounted with laurel wreath and circlet “South Yorkshire 1st Volr. Batn.”; voided centre bearing strung bugle with White Rose of York lodged between the cords. Between the crown and the top of the wreath, an applied scroll “Defence not Defiance”. Three loops to reverse. VGC HQ at Wakefield. Previously 5th West Riding of Yorkshire RVC. Redesignated 1st VB. King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in 1888.

24th (Post Office) Middlesex Rifle Volunteers post 1880 Victorian Officer’s pouch badge. A fine ornate die-stamped silvered example. Within a laurel wreath surmounted by an Imperial style Crown; a Maltese cross with balls to the tips and dragons between the arms. The top and bottom arms of the cross bear the three seaxes of Middlesex. The left and right arms bear the letter “T” surmounted by the Crown of HSH the Duke of Teck (Hon. Colonel of the regiment from 1880 until his death in 1900). Between the top arm of the cross and the Crown, a Bishop’s mitre; below the lower arm and the wreath, a strung bugle. To the centre of the cross, a circlet inscribed “Saint Martin’s le Grand” encircling a shield. Across the base of the wreath, a tri-part scroll inscribed “Post Office, XXIV Middlesex Rifle Regiment”. Three screw posts to reverse. VGC 49th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers formed at the General Post Office 13th February 1868; renumbered 24th in September 1880. 24th supplied personnel for the Army Post Office Corps for active service overseas. To the centre, within a circlet inscribed “Rifle Brigade”, a Crowned strung bugle; the wreath is adorned with “South Africa 1900-1902” honours and bears a scroll across the base “The Prince Consort’s Own”. Crowned star mounted with laurel wreath joined at the top by a scroll inscribed “Gibraltar; fouled anchor to the junction below. Within the wreath, a pierced strap inscribed “Per Mare per Terram” on blue painted ground (originally enamel). To the centre, a silver globe in relief. Beneath the anchor, an applied silver strung bugle. Three loops to reverse. Gilt worn, overall heavy service wear. (KK 1091)

Two screw posts to reverse. VGC 22nd formed 25th February, 1860 at Pimlico. renumbered 13th in 1881.
