A CLEAN VICTORIA RIFLES OFFICER'S SWORD BY BUSAIN &CO, 82cm blade etched with scrolling foliage, strung bugle horn, VICTORIA RIFLES, crowned VR cypher and owner's crest and initials WH, regulation pierced steel Gothic hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel mounted leather scabbard. The crest is that of the Harflete, Harfett or Henraghty families.

Silvered rectangular plate bearing facetted silver star mounted with gilt crowned strap ‘KING’S OWN 2ND STAFFORDSHIRE MILITIA’ with Windsor Castle in gilt to centre on a silvered domed ground. Beneath the strap, a gilt strung bugle with Stafford Knot between the cords. Reverse retains original hooks and studs. Flag absent.Raised 5th January 1853 at Lichfield, became 3rd Bn. North Staffordshire Regt. on 1st July 1881.

Two loops to reverse. Attractively framed and glazed with identifying plaque many years ago by the Parker Gallery.

Crowned star bearing laurel sprays joined at the top by “GIBRALTAR”; fouled anchor and strung bugle below. Within the sprays, a circlet inscribed “PER MARE PER TERRAM”; to the centre, the globe in relief. Two loops to reverse. Minor service wear to globe and slight verdigris to reverse. GC

Victorian Officer’s pouch & beltA good scarce three inch wide brown leather belt mounted with silvered pouch belt plate comprising crowned thistle wreath with central Mullet over a strung bugle, on seeded backing plate; across the base of the wreath, a scroll inscribed “The Scottish Rifles”. Whistle boss of 14 leaves with Dragon to centre, single strand chain, ornate Egyptian Pharaoh head whistle and thistle mounted holder. Pouch edged with silvered thistle border, the flap bearing crowned thistle wreath with central Mullet over a strung bugle. Miner service wear, generally VGC.

Comprising India General Service Medal, clasp “North West Frontier” “BUGLE MAJ C HASTINGS 3 BN RIF BDE”, Indian Mutiny Medal clasp “Lucknow” “CHAS HASTINGS 3RD BATN RIFLE BRIGE”. Both medals retain original ribbons and suspension buckle. Slight contact wear.The Indian Mutiny Medal & clasp are confirmed, Sergeant Hastings was still serving with the regiment in 1861.
