Highland Light Infantry Victorian Officer’s plaid brooch.A poor post 1882 example. Burnished cast silvered quoit with engraved edge mounted with thistle wreath bearing 28 battle honours to ‘Tel El Kebir’. To the centre, a Thistle Star, a gilt Imperial crown, silver curled bugle, gilt ‘HLI’, ‘Assaye’ and Elephant. Fixing screws replaced. Stout pin to reverse.

105th (Madras Light Infantry) Regiment Officer’s Victorian Officer’s waist belt clasp circa 1861-81.A scarce example of special pattern with matching bench marks to both halves.. Central gilt disc mounted silver coiled bugle horn inscribed ‘Madras Light Infty.’ within crowned sprays of laurel and palm, ‘105’to the centre. A scroll on the junction of the leaf sprays ‘Cede Nullis’. Gilt oakleaf ends. Silver overlay with a little wear, wear to gilt. Split to bugle end. GC (Ryan 155)In 1861 the 2nd Madras (European) Regiment was transferred to the British Establishment as the 105th (Madras Light Infantry) Regiment, becoming the 2nd Battalion, The King’s Own Light Infantry (South Yorkshire Regiment) in 1881

Four loops of HPC style to reverse. VGC1820 raised as the 1st Extra Battalion of Bombay Native Infantry; 1926 redesignated 25th Regiment of Bombay Native (Light) Infantry. After various changes in title became the 125th Napier's Rifles in 1903. Identification by Hugh King.

60th Foot (KRRC) Victorian shako plate circa 1861-69.A fine and scarce die-stamped blackened example. Maltese cross surmounted by a tri-part scroll ‘Salamanca, Peninsula, Toulouse’, all resting on scroll ‘Celer et Audax’; the ends of both scrolls resting on the centre arms of the cross. On the cross, a circlet inscribed ‘The King’s Royal Rifle Corps’, to the centre a strung bugle with ‘60’ between the cords. The arms of the cross bearing honours to ‘Goojerat’. Maltese cross surmounted by a Crown resting on a ribbon scroll inscribed “Peninsula”, the ends of the scroll resting on the central arms of the cross. On the cross, whose arms bear battle honours, a circlet ‘The King’s Royal Rifle Corps’, to the centre a strung bugle, ‘3’ over ‘60’ between the cords. Beneath the cross, a ribbon scroll inscribed ‘Celer et Audax’. Two loops to reverse. VGC

Royal Marine Light Infantry Colour Sergeant’s rank badge circa 1902-23.A good example of scarlet cloth. Within bullion laurel sprays, a padded bullion Globe set on crossed silk Union flags surmounted by a bugle horn, in turn surmounted by a crown. Between the base of the Globe and that of the wreath, a bullion fouled anchor; beneath the wreath, a pair of crossed sabres. A little service wear and tiny trace of surface moth. VGCThe Royal Marine Light Infantry amalgamated with the Royal Marine Artillery in 1923 to form The Royal Marines.

Large crowned star mounted with silver ornate strung bugle bearing Garter Star with gilt pierced motto on blue enamel ground and central Cross of St. George in red enamel (slightly defective). Beneath the bugle, an ornate ended silver scroll inscribed ‘Royal Sussex’. Two horizontal loops to reverse and one of two pairs of wire behind the crown. VGCRaised 29th June 1778 at Chichester. Redesignated Royal Sussex Light Infantry 1845; became 4th Bn. Royal Sussex Regt. on Friday 1st July 1881.

Spanish Civil War banner and flag finial of the Fascist University Militias circa 1936-39A rare grey cord edged red silk banner bearing on one side a bullion ‘I’ and in the upper left corner a coiled bugle with crossed rifle and sword; the other side is grey silk and bears bullion crossed swords superimposed on padded silver bullion stylised bird with blue and white checkered shield to its breast; yoke and arrows above. Complete with tassels. Approx. 33 x 33 cm ... poorly cast brass finial in the shape of an oval bearing Yoke and Arrows Falangist symbol surmounted by a spear point. Screw base. VGC (2 items)

1st King George’s Own Gurkha Rifles 1913 Birmingham hallmarked Officer’s silver pouch belt plate.A very fine example by J & Co. (Jennens). Laurel sprays, surmounted by a separate crown, bearing six honour scrolls to ‘Afghanistan 1878-80’ and resting on a scroll ‘King George’s Own Own Gurkha Rifles’. Centrally, on the blackened HM silver backplate, silver GRI cypher, crossed kukris and strung bugle surmounted by the numeral ‘1’. Four screw posts to reverse, each retaining its HM silver washer and retaining nut. VGCBecame 1st Prince of Wales’s Own Gurkha Rifles in 1906 when he visited India, then 1st King George’s Own Gurkha Rifles when he ascended the throne upon Edward VII’s death in 1910.

Laurel sprays, surmounted by a Guelphic Crown resting on a ‘ Waterloo’ tablet, enclosing Maltese cross with lions between the arms and bearing a circlet ‘Rifle Brigade’ with, crowned strung bugle to centre. The sprays bear Crimean honours, the arms of the cross bear the other numerous honours of the Brigade. To the base of the wreath, an applied scroll inscribed ‘The Prince Consort’s Own’, ‘Peninsula’ and ‘Lucknow’ above. Four screw posts to reverse, retaining original backing plate. Crown reaffixed, highpoints polished. GC.
24th (Post Office) Middlesex Rifle Volunteers post 1880 Officer’s pouch belt plate.A fine ornate die-stamped silvered example. Within Imperial crowned laurel sprays; a Maltese cross, dragons between the arms. The top and bottom arms bear the Arms of Middlesex. the left and right bear a crowned ‘T’ of HSH the Duke of Teck. A Bishop’s mitre surmounts the top arm, a strung bugle below bottom arm. Central circlet inscribed “Saint Martin’s le Grand” encircling a shield. Across the base of the wreath, a tri-part scroll inscribed “Post Office, XXIV Middlesex Rifle Regiment”. Four screw posts to reverse. VGC49th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers formed at the General Post Office 13th February 1868; renumbered 24th in September 1880. 24th supplied personnel for the Army Post Office Corps for active service overseas.

Crown star mounted with circlet inscribed ‘5th Royal Elthorne Middlesex Militia’; applied VR Cypher surmounting strung bugle to domed centre. Reverse retains both original horizontal loops. VGCRaised 16th May 1853 at Hounslow; became 3rd Battalion Middlesex Regiment on Friday 1st July, 1881. Redesignated 5th Battalion March 1900. Provenance : ex Hugh King Collection, Bosleys September 2006, Lot 78.

VGC40th Mx RV Central London Rangers renumbered 22nd Middlesex Rifle Volunteers (Central London Rangers) in 1880. 1st April 1908 transferred to the new Territorial Force as 12th Bn The London Regiment (The Rangers).

Victorian Middlesex Rifles Volunteers / Middlesex Engineers Officer’s Sword An unusual example, the slightly curved single edged blade with etched decoration of a crowned strung bugle device and title “37th Middlesex Rifles”, the reverse with the title “1st Middlesex Engineers”. A panel is etched wit the initials “E.J.G.”. The forte with the retailers details of “F. Smith & Co. Strand London”. The hilt is of the Royal Engineers 1857 pattern, with brass guard with floral decoration. The shagreen grip retaining twist wire binding. Housed in brass scabbard.The vendor has attributed the sword to have been carried by a Edward J Gardiner.
Victorian 8th Essex Rifle Volunteers Officer’s sword.A scarce example carried by an Officer of this short lived unit, the blade etched with a Crowned VR Cypher and title “The 8th Essex Rifles” The forte with the details of “Jackson” The hilt of the regulation pattern, incorporating a crowned strung bugle and shagreen grip. Housed in steel scabbard. Overall now with dark patina. 8th Corps raised at Stratford on 6th March 1860 and were disbanded in 1865.
Bedfordshire Light Infantry Militia Victorian Officer’s shoulder belt plate circa 1852-55.A good scarce silver on copper rectangular plate mounted with cut silver star in turn mounted with a gilt crowned strung bugle ‘18’ lodgedbetween the cords. Beneath the bugle, a gilt scroll inscribed ‘Bedford Light Infantry’. Reverse retains original two hooks and two studs. Two surplus holes to reverse. Some restoration. GCBecame 3rd Battalion The Bedfordshire Regiment on 1st July 1881.
85th (Bucks Volunteers) (The King’s Light Infantry Regiment) Officer’s shoulder belt plate circa 1821-40.A good scarce example. Burnished gilt rectangular plate mounted with crowned oval silver strap inscribed ‘The King’s Light Infantry’; to the centre, a silver strung bugle over ‘85’. Beneath the strap, a straight silver scroll inscribed ‘Peninsula’. Reverse retains original two hooks and two studs. Minor service wear. VGC for age. (Parkyn 413)The 85th was granted the title “King’s Light Infantry” in April 1821. It served in Malta and at Gibraltar from 1821 to 1832. The 85th served in North America from 1835 to 1842 and was despatched on horse sleighs across heavy snows from New Brunswick to quell disturbances in Quebec in the winter of 1838. After North America the 85th saw service in the West Indies, in Ireland under the command of Lt.Col. Brook John Taylor and Mauritius under Lt.Col. Manley Power. Became 2nd Battalion KSLI on Friday 1st July 1881
