An officer’s service sword, c 1810, of Captain Charles Diggle, 52nd Regiment, plain curved, shallow fullered blade 31”, steel stirrup hilt with pronounced knucklebow, the langets engraved with strung bugle and “52” on one side and “Captain Charles Diggle” on the other, plain pronounced forward sloping pommel and backstrap, wire bound leather grip, in its leather scabbard with lightly line engraved steel locket, middle band and chape, with 2 rings. Good Condition (steel parts cleaned over pitting, scabbard leather some wear). A 19th century bowie knife, blade 10½”, marked “Broomhead & Thomas Celebrated American Hunting Knife” at forte on one side, with a later etched panel, running the whole length of the blade, and depicting an antelope chased by a dog under a tree, in a panel of foliage with a bugle and hunting horn “trophy” at the lower end, shaped silver plated “coffin” type hilt with plain crossguard and side straps up to frustrum shaped pommel engraved with a stylized sunburst on both sides, diced horn grips with a small panel on one side scratch engraved “Rio c 1868”. Good Condition. Plate 35
A light company officer’s sword, flat, sharply curved blade 29”, steel stirrup hilt with shallow langets, the outer one bearing applied brass strung bugle, pronounced forward sloping plain pommel and backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its black leather (replaced) scabbard with plain pierced steel mounts, rings to locket and middle band, gilt knot and tassels. Good Condition, the steel parts cleaned bright overall. Plate 43
An early 19th century officer’s sword of The 52nd (Oxfordshire Light Infantry) Regiment, curved flat blade 31½”, etched in plain panels on one side with crowned Royal Arms, supporters and motto, and on the other side with crown, strung bugle, “LII” and wreath (etching faint), gilt stirrup hilt with ornamental langets bearing strung bugle, crossguard, facetted knucklebow, flattened lion’s head pommel into backstrap facetted at the lower end, wirebound fishskin grip, in its steel flattened diamond section scabbard (minor dents) with 2 rings on crosslet mounts. Good Condition, the hilt retaining approximately 50% original gilt. Plate 43

An assembled Vic rifle regt officer’s sword, thin flexible DE Spanish blade 31”, etched and gilt for half length on both sides with fenestrated, stylized floral panels and marked “Fabrica de Toledo 1880” on one side at forte with Spanish R Arms on the other, regulation plated hilt incorporating crowned strung bugle, stepped pommel and backstrap with chequered thumbpiece, wirebound fishskin grip, in its plated scabbard (kinked, plating bubbled) with single ring. Sword near VGC, the blade and hilt retaining most original finish (minor rust speckles to inside of guard).
A brass mounted copper bugle, marked “Thos Dawkins & Co, 205-207 City London” with no “14”, mouthpiece on chain (few dents) and a similar bugle, no maker’s name, applied WM Cameron Highlander badge; an interesting copper bottle/flask, indented base as for wine bottle, well fitting screw stopper, 11” overall; 3 other items. Sword: An 1827 Pattern Rifle Officers sword by Henry Wilkinson Pall Mall, London. Top of blade numbered '10716' (Number shows year of manufacture as 1860) Etched blade with Victorian Crown and '8th L.R.V.' (8th Lancashire Rifle Volunteers) Panel on blade etched with owners name 'W. HARPER'. Blade 32.5", steel hilt with strung bugle device, wirebound fishskin hilt (handling wear). In its steel mounted leather scabbard. Note * William Harper's career through the Gazettes is sold with the sword.
Sword: An Infantry Officers sword Pattern 1845/54 by Henry Wilkinson. Ricasso with Pall Mall address. Fullered blade 33" with VR Crown & Rifle Officers strung bugle (Rifle Volunteers?) Top of blade numbered '24205' for 1881. 1854/Patt Gothic Brass hilt with non folding guard. In its steel scabbard. Areas of light pitting (largely to scabbard). Grip wirebound fishskin (latter worn). Sound condition overall, researchable and will improve with cleaning.

A Royal Green Jackets Officer's black leather belt with large silver badge of the King's Royal Rifle Corps and silver whistle on a plated chain with lions head roundel pierced with motto 'Celer Et Audox' (Swift and Bold), together with a cartridge pouch applied with silver strung bugle, hallmarks for Jennens & Co Birmingham 1893, together with various uniforms including 1949 pattern Battle blouse with King's Royal Rifle Corps Bakelite buttons by J.J. Mendes Ltd, another Battle blouse 1942? Pattern with Queen's Westminster cloth insignia, Lieutenant's pips and 56th (London) Infantry Division cloth badges by Master Craft Uniform Co, various shirts, trousers, civilian wear etc, contained in two large trunks, the metal trunk inscribed 'Capt De Salis K.R.R.C.' Probably a combination of two family members uniform but primarily belonging to Lieutenant-Colonel Sydney Charles Fane De Salis, D.S.O., King's Royal Rifle Corps, born in 1898, various WWI commissions served on the Western Front and Russia, wounded twice, post war service with King's African Rifles , awarded the DSO (L.G. 8.7.1941) and twice mentioned in despatches. Victorian Rifle Volunteers Pouch Badge, two piece white metal Victorian crown and strung bugle mounted onto a piece of card with typed label identifying it to be 2nd Sussex Rifle Volunteers. Screw post fittings on the reverse. Accompanied by a brass 1861 shako plate with white metal Prince of Wales feathers to the centre, lugs on the reverse have been replaced and a white metal un-identified pouch plate. (3 items)
