A copy of the Portland Daily Bugle was seen on the desk of Shawshank Warden Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton) after Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) escaped from the prison.The Shawshank Redemption earned a total of seven Academy Award® nominations, including Best Picture, and was selected by the United States Library of Congress in 2015 to be preserved in the National Film Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."The newspaper bears the headline "Corruption, Murder at Shawshank," with a subheading that reads, "D.A. Has Ledger - Indictements [sic] Expected" above an image of the prison. The newspaper is folded and features printed copy on its front page, center spread and back page. Warden Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton) read a Portland Daily Bugle story about corruption at Shawshank after Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) escaped from the prison.This Portland Daily Bugle cover, an early version of the final newspaper seen on screen, is dated "Monday, August 1966" with a black-and-white image of an orchestra and several headlines, including "Flying Saucers' Photo Released by Coastguard," printed throughout. The interior and back pages feature filler text and advertisements. The cover is intentionally distressed by production to appear aged with yellowing, fold lines, and staining.
