Victorian Officers Headdress Badge of the 3rd West York Light Infantry Militia circa 1853-1881, fine quality bullion embroidered crowned bugle with silver bullion and metal York rose to the centre. Badge is in near mint condition. Accompanied by a heavy bullion embroidered on black felt Yorkshire rose collar badge. After 1881 this regiment became the 3rd Battalion of the York & Lancaster regiment. These badges were purchased by Churchill in the 1970’s at Sotherbys.

Victorian Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) Dress Shako, of green cloth body with black patent leather peak. Blackened brass strung bugle shako badge with green twist cord boss fitted with blackened brass star. Shako is complete with the original cord cap lines. Two part black horse hair plume (missing plume socket). Interior has the original leather sweatband liner, which has some cracks and wear.

Touch of verdigris otherwise VGC. Raised 23rd June 1759 at Colchester as the 2nd or East Essex Militia; redesignated Essex Rifles Militia in March 1853 and became 3rd Bn. Badge. British Indian. 106th (Bombay Light Infantry) Regiment Victorian OR’s glengarry badge circa 1874-1881. A die-stamped brass example. Crowned curled bugle horn set on laurel wreath with “106” to voided centre; across the base of the laurels a tri-part scroll, “Bombay Light Infantry”. Loops East and West (one replaced with old lead soldered wire loop). (KK 583) GC In 1861 the 2nd Bombay Light Infantry Regiment was transferred to the British Establishment as the 106th Bombay Light Infantry, becoming the 2nd Battalion The Durham Light Infantry in 1881.

A good scarce blackened brass curled bugle horn, surmounted by a thistle spray, bearing “19” over “Lk” within the curl of the bugle. Two loops to reverse, one bent over. Minor wear to paintwok otherwise GC. (KK 1533) Formed 5th December 1859 from member of the Western and Clyde Engineering Works. Sub title (Glasgow, Second Northern). Redesignated 5th Corps in 1880 becoming 1st VB Highland Light Infantry in 1887

A fine and scarce silvered crowned star mounted with laurel wreath and strap ‘6th Lanarkshire R.V.’, black velvet centre bearing strung bugle. Three loops to reverse. VGC Redesignated 2nd VB HLI in December 1887.

Badge. 5th VB Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) OR’s helmet plate circa 1887-97. A good scarce die-stamped white metal example. Within a thistle wreath surmounted by a Guelphic Crown, a mullet with strung bugle below. On the left of the wreath, a Sphinx resting on a torse; on the right side of the wreath, the Dragon of China resting on a torse. On the base of the wreath, a two tier scroll inscribed “5th. Volr. Battn.”, “The Scottish Rifles”. Three loops to reverse. Very good condition. On 1st April 1897 the Battalion was disbanded as a result of the severe criticism by the Officer commanding 26th Regimental District on its discipline.

Maltese cross surmounted by a crown resting on a tablet inscribed “Celer et Audax”. On the cross, a circlet inscribed “The King’s Royal Rifle Corps”, to the centre a strung bugle. The arms of the cross bearing honours to “Tel-el-Kebir”. Three loops to reverse. VGC (as KK 269)

Badge. 20th (East Devon) Regiment of Foot Victorian Officer’s Albert shako plate circa 1844-55. A very fine and scarce Crimean War rich gilt example. Crowned star bearing battle honours, mounted with ornate coiled bugle resting in laurel sprays bearing further honours; seeded ‘XX’ to centre. Beneath the crown, a scroll ‘Minden’; on the star beneath the sprays, the Sphinx on ‘Egypt’. Two loops and one securing wire to reverse. VGC Attributed to Major James Birch Sharpe (1818-54) Severely wounded at the Battle of Inkerman, died Scutari Hospital 29.12.1854. See lot 86 for companion shoulder belt plate. Hugh King Collection

Badge. Rifle Brigade Victorian Sergeant’s pouch belt plate circa 1881-1901. A fine die-stamped blackened brass laurel wreath surmounted by a Guelphic crown resting on a ‘Waterloo’. Within the wreath, a Maltese cross with lions between the arms and balls to the tips. To the centre of the cross, within a circlet inscribed “Rifle Brigade”, a crowned strung bugle. The arms of the cross bear the numerous honours of the Regiment,; the wreath bears honours “Alma Inkerman Sevastopol Lucknow Ashantee South Africa”. To the base ‘Peninsula” and scroll ‘The Prince Consort’s Own’. Four screw posts to reverse, retaining original seeded backing plate. VGC Hugh King Collection

Badge. 7th (or Royal Fusiliers) Regiment of Foot Georgian Light Company Officer’s shoulder belt plate. A very fine and exceedingly rare example. Rectangular gilt plate with canted corners mounted with silver gadrooned border. The centre mounted with hand cut silver 12 pointed star bearing gilt crowned Garter with rose to voided centre; below the star, a silver strung bugle. Reverse retains original fixings, comprising two hooks at the top and two studs at the bottom. VGC .

To the voided centre, within a circlet inscribed “Salus Populi Suprema Lex”, a strung bugle. Two loops to reverse, one an old replacement. Badge. 2nd Royal Guernsey Militia Edwardian Officer’s helmet plate circa 1902-08 A scarce gilt example converted from a Victorian one whilst in service. Crowned star mounted with laurel wreath and strap “Pro Aris Rege Et Focis”, the black velvet centre mounted with silvered Arms of Guernsey . Mounted on the base of the wreath, a silver tri-part scroll inscribed “Royal Guernsey Militia” surmounted by silver strung bugle with ‘2’ on the cords. Across the top of the wreath a silvered scroll inscribed “Diex Aie”. LOOPS ABSENT otherwise VGC.
