A Victorian 1827 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword, the single edge fullered steel blade richly etched with royal cypher, scrolling foliage and owner's initials E.H.W.( Ellis Houlton-Ward), by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, and numbered 8994 on the edge, the chromium plated steel blade pierced with a strung bugle, copper wire bound black fish skin grip and with steel scabbard.. **Ellis Houlton-Ward joined the 28th Foot as an Ensign in April 1858, he was promoted to Lieutenant in November 1861. In 1863 he transferred to the 60th Foot (Kings Royal Rifle Corps), and was promoted to Captain in May 1869. He retired from the Army and sold his commission in 1874. .
