A VICTORIAN OFFICER`S UNIFORM OF THE BOMBAY VOLUNTEER RIFLES CIRCA 1900 scarlet tunic with blue cloth collar and cuffs, the collar edged with silver "Vellum" lace and braid, with white metal bugle-horn collar-badges. The fronts edged with silver Russia braid. Pointed cuffs edged with a double row of silver lace, traced with Russia forming an Austrian knot above and crowsfoot below. White metal buttons with regimental title and bugle-horn below the Imperial crown. Twisted silver shoulder-cords bearing two stars in silver embroidery; a scarlet "Torin" pattern field cap with blue crown and flaps, silver braid edging and badge of the Imperial crown above `BVR` in silver embroidery; a paper label inscribed ` F W English`; a white enamelled leather shoulder belt with whistle-holder, lion`s head chain-boss and magnificent plate, bearing a Guelphic crown above the Star of India within a voided strap inscribed with regimental title surrounded by a laurel wreath, all in white metal (whistle and chains missing); with its black leather pouch, the flap bearing initials `BVR` in script; and companion waistbelt and sword-slings, with white metal snake-clasp (4)

An interesting Rifle officers pattern sword, evidently made to advertise Wilkinson’s swords in Arab states, fullered blade 29”, with Wilkinson logo on one side at forte and “Supplied by Blackwell Young & Co London” on the other, blackened panel on both sides of blade with Arabic inscription overall and date 1962 (AD) 1382 (AH), plated hilt with Wilkinson logo in place of strung bugle, chequered backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, in its plated scabbard with 2 rings. GC (plating AF)
An early Vic 1827 pattern officer’s sword of the Ceylon Rifles, curved pipe backed blade 32”, etched on both sides in panels with crown/ wreath/ “Ceylon”/ strung bugle/ “Rifles” and wreath, with a trophy of flags on one side only, regulation steel hilt, the guard incorporating crowned strung bugle, forward sloping stepped pommel, plain backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip (small chip to top), in its steel scabbard with 2 rings. Basically GC (blade some wear)

Basically GC (some pitting and dents to hilt and scabbard)

GC (some wear, pitting patches and stains to blade)

An interesting officer’s sword of a rifle regiment c 1902, straight fullered blade 32½” with German stamp of WK & C at forte and name of Baxter & Co Oxford St W, etched with crowned reversed and interlaced VR cypher, Royal Arms and wreath, within scrolled panels, regulation steel hilt incorporating KC strung bugle, stepped pommel, chequered backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, with a leather knot, in limp brown leather scabbard with large steel locket and loop, marked “Registered”. GC (edge nicks to blade, tip AF)
