A 14-BORE FLINTLOCK VOLUNTEER BAKER RIFLE BY MORRIS, circa 1820, with earlier(?) 28in. swamped octagonal twist sighted barrel (rear-sight missing) rifled with seven grooves and with two studs and one pierced hole at the muzzle, tang engraved with the Rifle Brigade bugle, flat bevelled border engraved lock with 'GR' cypher and signed 'MORRIS' on the tail, and stepped tail and roller, walnut three-quarter stock (fore-end extensively repaired and partially replaced), brass mounts, and associated iron ramrod, Tower private proof marks.
Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 1st issue, large letter reverse (Sergt. I. Plumb, Band Master, 2nd Battn. 60 Royal Rifles), with original steel clip and rectangular steel suspension, engraved naming in fine script, slight edge bruising, good very fine £200-250 Isaac Plumb was born in Ipswich, Suffolk. A Musician by occupation, he attested for the 60th Regiment at London on 6 December 1825, aged 18 years. Serving firstly in the 1st battalion, he transferred to the 2nd Battalion in September 1845. He served overseas in Portugal, the Mediterranean and in North America. Having attained the rank of Bugle Major, he was discharged at Halifax, Nova Scotia on 30 April 1847; however a note on his papers states: ‘Bugle Major Plumb wishes to continue with the 2nd Battn. 60th Regiment of Rifles in a private capacity and proceed with it, wherever it may be quartered’. Sold with copied service papers. £200-£250
A Victorian Rifle Officer's sword, 81.5cm blade by Wilkinson, serial number 33352 for 1895, etched with scrolling foliage, Royal Arms, crowned VR cypher and owner's crest and motto DARE QUAM ACCIPERE, regulation plated steel hilt incorporating a crowned strung bugle horn, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its plated steel mounted black leather scabbard, complete with black leather sword knot.
A COMPOSITE GERMAN RAPIER, THIRD QUARTER OF THE 16TH CENTURY with broad blade of flattened-hexagonal section, stamped 'IOHANI' and 'PICINI' within a framework of decorative marks on the respective faces, rectangular ricasso engraved with lines at the borders and struck with a mark, a strung bugle, on each side (the tip of the blade pitted), steel hilt of rounded bars comprising a pair of vertically recurved canted quillons with ovoid tips, upper and lower ring-guards, the former swelling towards the centre, inner guard formed en suite, faceted plummet-shaped pommel, and wooden grip with later leather covering (the steel parts cleaned) 95cm; 37 3/8in blade
Seven stickpins to include a gold stone set stickpin, a 9ct gold stickpin depicting a bugle, a seed pearl set stickpin, a stickpin depicting a bird's claw holding a shell bead and three others. The stickpins are in fair condition. There are general scratches to all of the stickpins. There is serious tarnishing to some of the stickpins, there is some damage to the enamel. Some of the claws appear a little lose, some items are in need of repair.
