A presentation 1803 pattern infantry light company officers sword, broad, curved fullered blade, 30, etched with makers name Gilson, Thomson & Craigs, Warranted in scrolls at forte, crowned 1801-16 Royal Arms, crowned GR cypher, seated Britannia, trophies and flourishes, copper gilt hilt, the slotted guard with 4 looped panels either side, into knucklebow with crowned GR cypher surmounted by strung bugle into lions head pommel and facetted backstrap, wirebound leather grip with knot (worn) in its leather scabbard with brass locket, middle band and chape, with 2 rings, engraved overall with ribbon bands, the locket inscribed To Capt Willm. Meredith from his Corps and makers name Read, 4 Parliamt Sq. Good Condition , the blade with traces of blueing and gilding, the hilt retaining approximately 40% gilt. Plate 21

A 19th century presentation 1827 pattern rifle regiment officers sword, with curved single edged singled fullered blade, the blade with extensive acid etched decoration of the Light Infantry Bugle with inscription 'Presented to Lieutenant W.W. Scott 50th Lanarkshire (Press) Rifle Corps by numerous friends as a mark of respect, Glasgow 24th March 1860, length of blade 82cm with shark skin grip with twist wire decoration, with chromed pierced guard decorated with the Light Infantry horn surmounted by a crown, complete with matching chrome scabbard, also with this lot is a book entitled 'The Red Hose, a tale of Upper Clydesdale', by William Scott, published London and Manchester by John Heywood 1879, with inscription 'to Agnes M Scott with the kind and never dying love of her affectionate father, the author September 30th 1879', William Scott was the recipient of this sword

Evidently GC (needs cleaning)

A Vic officer’s embroidered pouch of the 1st Midlothian Rifle Volunteers (Leith), blue velvet on maroon leather, silver lace border to embroidered flap bearing precedence no 32 in crowned bugle, “1st” and scrolls “Midlothian”, “Rifle” and “Volunteers” all within thistle wreaths, WM mounts and belt loops, maker’s label of Wm Anderson & Sons Edinburgh inside. A collection of 90+ Great War period monochrome snapshot photographs of the British Army in Egypt, many numbered and with hand written captions verso, the main body of images depicting Ras El Tin barracks and Mustapha barracks, Alexandria. Military and leisure activity scenes including kit inspection, plate washing, bugle band, trench digging, guard parading, prisoners etc. Captions include: “German prisoners being escorted from Ras El Tin barracks to the S.S. ----- for Malta. I am the Guard shown nearest in the photo”; “Special prisoners arriving in front of barracks in carriages. I was on Police duty on this occasion helping to usher them in but I don’t appear in this photo”; “Arrival of prisoners in barrack square & examination of baggage”; “Two fat old Monks or Priests (Austrian). Needless to say these two old devils had more spirituous liquor (which they are not allowed to keep) than any of the other prisoners, although a fair amount of this had to be tipped up”; “Austrian sailor prisoners round their Christmas tree at the compound. I and Hunter who had just come off guard were taken with the group”; cook house; swimming in sea and in sulphur bath at Helwar; “bug hunt” - “Alec Milne took this during the “bug hunt” which took place in our quarters on our arrival at ras El Tin barracks. You will notice nearly everyone engaged in the noble sport”; March to desert; view of harbour near the hospital; lighthouse at Ras El Tin; gardens in city; United States cruiser “Tennessee”; stables behind barracks under water after heavy rain storm; riding donkeys at Mex; wrestling; excursion to Cairo and Pyramids etc. Captions include: “Leaving Sidi Gaber station (Alexandria) for Cairo”; “Chadwick, Tatlow, Jones and Self, an argument with the camel owners”; “Sphinx and Pyramids. Some of us on camels”; “Climbing the Pyramid. Hunter, Fritz, Self”; “The Colossus – (statue of Rameses II) at Memphis”. Plus assorted other scenes captioned: “The Herts. Yeomanry arriving at Abbassia for entrainment to Ismailia where the Turks made their attack. They are very well mounted”; “Australian A.S.C. Waggons at Mustapha lined up on our parade ground. The Australian A.S.C. is very well equipped”; “Some Indian troops (RAMC) who are stationed near here taking cars of Indian wounded”. Size mainly approx. 2 ¾” x 4 ¼”
A scarce pre 1827 officer’s sword of a Volunteer rifle regiment, slightly curved fullered blade 28½”, with faint traces of etching in panels, solid steel half basket guard engraved with crowned strung bugle overlaid with WRV in fine script, large plain forward sloping pommel and plain backstrap, wirebound leather grip. GC (blade heavily worn)
