2nd Royal Tower Hamlets Militia Victorian Officer’s quilted shako.A good scarce example of dark blue cloth; around to top of the crown, a band of 3/4 inch silver lace with blackened gorgon’s head at the back; around the base, a narrow patent leather band with buckle on the reverse; patent leather peak. To the front, a silver eight pointed star, the topmost point displaced by a crown; mounted on the star, a pierced gilt circlet inscribed “THE QUEEN’S OWN LIGHT INFANTRY”; to the centre, a gilt crowned strung bugle on a lined ground. Wool tuft, sweatband, chinstrap and lining absent; lace dull, plate heavily tarnished. Cork body remains firm.Became 5th Battalion Rifle Brigade in 1881

Bristol Rifle Volunteers Victorian Light Infantry Pattern Sword.A good example of the regulation pattern. The blade etched with a crowned reversed VR cypher and regimental title “Bristol Volunteers with a strung bugle. The forte with the cutler’s details of “CES Gibb Bristol Sword & Gun Maker” The hilt of the regulation pattern with shagreen grip. Housed in metal scabbard fitted with two loose rings. Overall GC, but with dulling and light service rust to scabbard and hilt.
Napoleonic War Period 1803 Infantry Pattern Light Company or Rifle Officer’s Sword.A rare and fine example, the 29 inch blade retain half length blue and gilt decoration (approx. 85% present”. This depicts a crowned GR cypher, Britannia and Stand of Arms. The forte with cutler’s details of “GIBSON THOMSON & CRAIG’S WARRANTED”. The hilt is the regulation pattern, the fire gilt bar guard with crowned GR cypher, this surmounted by a strung bugle. The leather grip with twist wire binding and surmounted by a lion head pommel. Housed in black leather and gilt mounted scabbard. Middle mount slides leather remains good but some age wear. The overall condition is good gilt to blade and hilt bright, one bar of the cross guard cracked.
5th Lancashire R.V’s (Liverpool Rifle Brigade) Victorian OR’s 1869 pattern shako plate.A good scarce die-stamped blackened brass example. Crown star bearing laurel sprays resting on a scroll “LIVERPOOL RIFLE BRIGADE”; within the sprays, a strung bugle with a rose between the cords. Two horizontal loops to reverse. VGCRedesignated 2nd VB King’s Liverpool Regt. in 1888 with HQ at Upper Warwick St., Liverpool.

15th Middlesex (Customs & Docks) Rifle Volunteers Victorian post 1880 OR’s helmet plate.A good scarce die-stamped blackened brass example. Crowned Maltese cross, lions between the arms, bearing circlet “15TH MIDDLESEX RIFLE VOLUNTEERS”; strung bugle to voided centre. Three loops to reverse. VGCOriginally raised as 24th in 1860 by Customs Officers in the London Docks, renumbered 15th Middlesex RV in 1881 becoming a VB of the Rifle Brigade amalgamating with 2nd Tower Hamlets to form 17th Bn. London Regiment in 1908.

WW1 1916 Presentation Bugle of Tank Corps Interest, good untouched copper and brass mounted bugle with engraved presentation inscription to the front, “PRESENTED TO XIX COY M.G CORPS (HEAVY) BY ITS FIRST C.O MAJOR F H FERNIE XMAS 1916”. Bugle has period cords attached. Some denting but overall a good untouched presentation example. Before the formation of the Tank Corps, the operations were carried out by the Heavy Companies of the Machine Gun Corps. Lieutenant Colonel Francis Hood Fernie DSO was the commander of the 7th Battalion Tank Corps during WW1. A photograph of him appears in the Imperial War Museum archive.
181st (6th Kings Shropshire Light Infantry) Field Regiment Royal Artillery Cloth Formation Sign, embroidered yellow strung bugle on green square. The 181st Field Regiment Royal Artillery was made up of men from the 6th Battalion Kings Shropshire Light Infantry in 1942. They were nicknamed “The Shropshire Gunners”. They landed in Normandy, D-Day + 9 and were first in action on 26th June 1944, supporting the 15th Scottish Infantry division during the battle of Odon, better known as the Scottish corridor. They continued to serve in North West Europe campaign and were the first Royal Artillery unit to cross the Rhine and Elbe rivers. The unit was disbanded on 9th January 1946.
Victorian 1845 Pattern Officers Sword of the Middlesex Rifle Volunteers, regulation pattern example with crowned strung bugle within the hilt. Grip retains the original wire binding. Housed in its steel scabbard. Blade is etched with decoration, regimental details and crest to lower section. Blade manufactured by S J Pillin. Blade has been worn to one edge, which has removed some of the decoration. Blade 82 ½ cms, overall 99cms.
Hampshire Yeomanry Cavalry (Carabineers) Officers 1871 Pattern Helmet of Isle of Wight Interest, fine example being white metal shell with large gilt metal starburst helmet plate to the centre with Victorian crowned strap having HAMPSHIRE CARABINIERS and gilt Hampshire rose to the centre. Gilt brass rosette side bosses with leather backed linked chin chain. Helmet has gilt metal cross base and fluted plume holder. Green leather underside to the peaks and leather liner system. Helmet is complete with the original chamois storage cover and housed in its original japanned metal storage tin having engraved name plaque “H G P Hoare Esq Hampshire Carabiniers”. Inside the tin is a old paper label which is inked, “Captain Hoare HCYC Bugle Hotel Newport I.W”. Some dents to the tin but the helmet is in very good overall condition.
1845 Pattern Rifle Officers Sword by Wilkinsons, No. 5373, regulation blade etched with crowned strung bugle and foliage with maker’s name and owner’s initials HGD beneath his crest of an eagle’s head between wings, regulation iron hilt (cleaned bright) wire bound fish skin covered grip, in its black painted steel scabbard. Good condition. Blade 32.5”.
Royal Marines Bugle Majors Dress Tunic, fine example in blue cloth with red collar having fine bullion embroidered regimental pattern collar badges and gold braid cord bordering collar. Lace cuff decoration with three gilt buttons. To lower arm are bullion chevrons and bugle majors bullion trade / proficiency badge. Partially blanket lined to the interior with various ink stampings. Issued 30.4.28. Some service wear and small section of braid loose on collar but otherwise generally good example.
A rare Royal Guernsey Militia belt buckle, for the 2nd Battalion, two piece interlocking buckle, each section with scrolling belt inserts, one bearing a roundel having a strung bugle crest with the number '2' atop the bugle's central area, the second an open ring section with 'Royal Guernsey Militia' in capitals to the outside.
