1973 Jensen Interceptor 'Fast & Furious Tribute' Transmission: automaticMileage:It’s not often a car company is started with the help of a movie star but when, in 1935, Clark Gable sent the Jensen brothers a new Ford chassis to fit one of their sleek four-seat bodies to, as they say the rest was history. After the war Jensen resumed low volume car production but prospered as the coachbuilder for Austin Healey and others until in 1963, they introduced the C-V8 with a Chrysler V8 engine, succeeding it with the Interceptor in 1967 with a Touring-designed body and power from a 383 Chrysler V8 unit. A modified and updated Interceptor II followed in late 1969 and was succeeded in 1971 by the Interceptor III which was joined in 1974 by a convertible version both powered by Chrysler’s 440 cubic inch engine. The Jensen Interceptor combined powerful, reliable American V8 power and smooth-shifting automatic gearboxes with British coachbuilt quality and luxury. They were built for a discerning clientele willing to pay a premium for their performance and exclusivity. In 1974 an Interceptor III cost 60% more than a Jaguar Series III E-Type Roadster.Originally registered on 11th October 1973, this example of the V8 laden Interceptor is presented in black with a matching black diamond stitched trim. Restored in 2018/2019 at a cost thought to be near £100,000 as a tribute to the Interceptor that featured in the 2013 Fast and Furious franchise movie Fast and Furious Six, driven by the character Letty Ortiz. With fabulous twin side exhausts and unique styling, we are informed by the vendor it turns heads wherever it goes. The engine has recently been fully rebuilt and bored out to 8.2 litres with the vendor informing us that it is still at the running in stage and will need another 500 miles of gentile driving before unleashing the full power from the incredible V8. Fitted with a Bullet steering wheel which complements the retrimmed interior. A host of bills and invoices accompany the car, specifically the recent bill for the engine rebuild, alongside the V5C registration certificate. This is a car that is iconic in its appearance, it is no shrinking violet and will certainly be noticed.Interested parties should note that this example has recently had an engine rebuild for which an invoice can be found in the history file. This vehicle therefore requires to be run in for a further 500 miles before an oil change.

Lot 150

1952 Morris Minor series II Convertible Transmission: manualMileage:34555The Morris Minor debuted at the Earls Court Motor Show in London on 20th September 1948. Designed by Alec Issigonis, more than 1.3 million were manufactured between 1948 and 1971. In 1952, the Morris Minor was updated with an Austin-designed 803cc overhead valve, A-Series engine replacing the original side-valve unit. The engine had been designed for the Minor's main competitor, the Austin A30, but became available when Austin and Morris were merged into the British Motor Corporation. Cosmetically the front wings and grille were replaced, and the headlights moved from the grille to the front wings. In 1952, in addition to the two and four-door saloon and the four-seat convertible, an estate version known as the Traveller was introduced (a Morris naming tradition for estates, also seen on the Mini), along with the van and pick-up versions. This stunning fully restored early split screen example was first registered on 1st May 1952 and supplied from new as a factory convertible. Presented in gleaming black coachwork with contrasting red trim and beautifully fitted new hood. The engine has been replaced with an uprated later Morris engine enabling this car to, more purposefully, keep up with modern traffic yet still retain a period feel. In this condition the car is really a joy to drive and would adorn any show, a credit to its owner and sure to be loved and cherished for many more years by its new custodian.

Lot 159

1966 Austin Mini Cooper Mk. I (998cc) Transmission: manualMileage:69300These fabulous and popular little cars were designed in 1959 and were heralded as a new concept in car design. Little did they know or envisage what would become of these great models. With a monocoque shell, transversely mounted engine and front wheel drive, the new 'Mini' soon became popular across the world and to all types of individuals well healed or not! The potential for competition use was soon seen by John Cooper; he eventually persuaded BMC and the two worked together culminating in the birth of the Austin Mini Cooper and the Morris Mini Cooper in 1961. Victories in the 1964, 1965 and 1967 Monte-Carlo Rallies set the Mini on the road to fame but probably the greatest publicity was gained from their, somewhat unfair, disqualification for lighting irregularities in the 1966 event after coming in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. A more powerful Mini Cooper, dubbed the 'S', was developed in tandem and released in 1963.Offered here is a truly exceptional Mk. I Austin Cooper restored to its original specification. Such high quality restorations are usually reserved for only the very best Cooper S models, making this probably the best condition Cooper on the road. Restored from the ground-up in its original colours of Tweed Grey with an Old English White roof, this car wants for nothing. Such was the obsessive nature of the restoration, that there are an abundance of period correct details not often found on many Minis, that will surely please any Mini aficionado. A good example of this is the period correct, crimped exhaust silencer, fabricated because these items are no longer available. Indeed, throughout the extensive photographic record of the restoration, you can see that no stone has been left unturned in the pursuit of perfection and it is a pleasure to see such effort going into something other than an ‘S’. The history file shows that since its restoration in 2013 the engine was rebuilt in 2017 and has hardly done any mileage since. Such pride was taken in the restoration of this car that a full photo gallery of it can still be seen on the restorer’s website. The Heritage Certificate shows this car to have been originally completed on 10th February 1966 and despatched to Solihull Motor Company on 26th February 1966 with the only option added being a fresh-air heater.Supplied with the Heritage Certificate, history file, driver’s handbook and photographic record of its restoration. This unique and correct Cooper is offered from the private collection of Jamiroquai’s front man, Jay Kay.

Lot 168

1965 Morris 1100 Mk. I Transmission: manualMileage:12688In 1962, a quite revolutionary new saloon was launched by BMC. With the codename ADO16 this new car was hot from the drawing boards of Alec Issigonis, who set out to design a larger and more sophisticated car which incorporated more advanced features and innovations, and the world-famous Italian design house Pininfarina. Offered in many guises by Innocenti, Morris, Riley, Wolseley, Vanden Plas and Austin, the ADO16 was truly universal in its appeal. In line with BMC's policy at the time, Austin badged versions of the ADO16 were built at Longbridge, whilst Morris and MG versions were assembled at Cowley.Originally registered on 20th August 1965, this stunning Morris 1100 presents in time warp condition. The Old English White coachwork is unmarked and the red interior has a delightful patina which is certainly commensurate with such a low mileage example. The originality of this Morris is quite remarkable, particularly taking into account it is 58 years old, even the tyres are still the original ones that the car left the factory with. In 1991 this Morris was put into dry storage and has been recently recommissioned at a cost of £1,300. The original factory parts, which were taken off the car, have been kept by the fastidious vendor. Open the boot on this car, and you will understand the excellent condition the car is in. Start the engine and the familiar sound of the A-Series engine is apparent. We are advised this Morris 1100 runs well and drives with no known faults, with everything working exactly as it should. The spare tyre has never been on the car and the tools are still in the original bag in the boot. Supplied with a V5C registration document, together with a current MoT test certificate valid until 8th June 2023, even though the car is MoT exempt. A great history file confirms the exceedingly low mileage of 12,688; this is an unrepeatable opportunity to purchase an iconic piece of British motoring history.Guide £11,000-£14,000

Lot 303

One of nine cars built by Arnott's Garages in Harlesden, this JAP-engined 500 has been a regular in motorsport paddocks for over 70 years. The name of Arnott has long been associated with high-performance motoring and the manufacture of superchargers, so it’s a little ironic that the cars that bear the Arnott name were built for Formula 3 (500), a Formula that specifically excluded superchargers. Daphne Arnott was born into a family with a deep-rooted passion for motorsports, her grandfather ran the Werner Motorcycle Company and her father designed the Arnott Supercharger. Daphne joined the family business in 1948 and soon became equally passionate about motor racing which was just developing again after the war years. It was a trio of visits to Brands Hatch and a chance meeting with George Thornton that changed her life. George convinced her that atmospheric induction could still produce potent vehicles despite her family's belief that forced induction was the way forward. She was intrigued and enthusiastic about George’s ideas for a new Formula 3 car (lightweight tube-frame chassis powered by 500cc motorcycle engines) and committed to support his plans. Arnott’s management don’t appear to have been impressed, so it was up to Daphne and George to treat the whole thing as a private venture, however, they were able to reserve a corner of the company’s general garage section at Harlesdon to build the cars as long as they worked outside of normal working hours. The first car used a tubular ladder-frame with torsion-bar suspension and achieved some success both in racing as well as in breaking Class 1 records at Montlhery in 1953. A supercharged Austin A30-engined sports car was offered from 1954, and a 1,098cc Coventry-Climax model was introduced in time for the 1955 race at Le Mans. The Arnott 500 was intended for series-production and was aimed at the growing number of young drivers who were becoming interested in Formula 3.This well presented example of the Arnott 500 is fitted with a Jap 498cc engine mated to a 4-speed Norton clutch and gearbox driving the rear wheels, motorcycle-style, with a chain to the rear axle. It has the added benefit of being fitted with a self-starter, making this car extremely easy to run and obviating the need to push it around the paddock, trying to avoid everyone else doing the same thing, until it starts. The steering is rack and pinion and the car sits on period cast alloy 15'' wheels. It was originally campaigned in 1952 by R D Beenan and has been raced on circuits and Hill Climbs ever since. The car is well known in the 500 Owners Association who confirmed that it still retains its original chassis and has been very competitive over the years.A superb, early single seater which would undoubtedly be welcomed by the Half-Litre Car Club, the 500 Club and the 500 Owners Association.SpecificationMake: ARNOTTModel: 500 F3Year: 1952Chassis Number: 500/5Registration Number: N/ATransmission: ManualEngine Number: JOS/4075766/4Make: Click here for more details and images

Lot 311

Standard MkII 998cc Austin Cooper prepared in the 1980s for club rallying. From long-term ownership and no longer active but would make a great sprint/hill climb/fun road car.Making its debut in 1961, the giant-slaying Mini Cooper went on to become one of the most successful competition cars of all time, literally running rings around far bigger and more potent opponents as a result of its incredible handling. The original 997cc long-stroke engine was supplanted in 1964 with the 998cc unit offering 55bhp and the twin SUs and close-ratio gearbox made for a very successful formula. A major revamp occurred in 1967 with the introduction of the MkII with a larger rear window and a different grille amongst a raft of other changes. Some 16,000 MKII Coopers were sold before production came to an end in 1969 and survivors are increasingly prized by collectors.Built on the 3rd of July 1968, JDR 612F was originally a standard 998cc Austin Cooper MkII finished in white with a black roof. At some point in its early life, one of its owners had decided that the call of motorsport could not be ignored and JDR was prepared for its next role as a rally car.We are not sure whether it was gradually developed over a period of time or was prepared initially as an homage to the mid-1960s ‘Works’ cars but it certainly looks the part now. Traditionally finished in Tartan Red with an Old English White roof, the little car sits well on chunky 10” Minilites popping out from black extended arches and sports a heavy duty sump-guard, Cooper’S’ twin tanks with quick-fillers, a quartet of Lucas spot/fog lights, a roof-mounted hand-operated spotlight, bonnet and boot straps and much more. There are some cheeky Cooper S badges on the boot and bonnet but, sadly, it’s not a 1275.Apart from the full roll-cage, a new dashboard panel and a hand-held extinguisher, the interior is basically standard and equipped with the normal working tools of a navigators life, internal fuses, map reading light, multiple stop watches and a Halda Twinmaster. It was owned and rallied by navigator, Nigel Chetwynd, and driven by his friend, Peter Barker, during the late 80s and early 90s with much success including an outright win in the Cumbria Classic in 1990 and second in class on the Solway Rally (There will be some press cuttings from that period with the car).JDR has been owned since 2005 by a father and daughter and is on offer from their private Mini Collection. We understand that it's been well-maintained during their ownership and has been out from time to time on road rallies and regularity runs. Our vendor has fitted rear lights and a rear screen from a Mk I Cooper further enhancing its ‘factory’ look. The car has a very strong shell and drives extremely well and, as an entry-level rally car represents great value for money, although the currency of the safety equipment (cage, belts, extinguisher etc.) would have to be established.Or perhaps just use it for fun days out, regularity events or the odd club sprint. Versatile little Cooper with a really great ‘look’.    SpecificationMake: AUSTINModel: MINI MKIIYear: 1968Chassis Number: CA2SB1150782ARegistration Number: JDR 612FTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 9FDSAH35094Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 15648 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

Lot 341

Aluminium-bodied BT7 with a factory hard top, fast-road engine, 'Tulip' gearbox and an ARX registration number. The Austin Healey 3000 has become one of the best-known British classic cars of the 1950s and 1960s following spectacular success in international rallying and circuit racing. A development of the Austin Healey 100-6, itself born of the four-cylinder 100, the 3000 was launched in March 1959 and was a significant improvement on the earlier cars featuring front disc brakes, wire wheels as standard and a more powerful (124bhp) 2,912cc BMC C-Series engine, ensuring a top speed of approximately 120mph. There was also a choice of two seater (BN7) or 2+2 (BT7) body styles. The new 3000 was an instant success on the road, on the track and on the rally stage and has enjoyed a large club following ever since.Originally delivered new to Paris in 1961, it's believed that this Big Healey’s competition background commenced soon after rolling off the production line with the vehicle being shipped to Canada later that year to participate in the Canadian Winter Rally.  Returning to the UK in the 1980s, the Healey was purchased by well known and respected Historic Rally Champion, Paul Howcroft, who commissioned Bob Brain, the renowned historic rally preparation specialist, to work his magic on the BT7. A full and extensive rebuild followed including conversion to right-hand drive format resulting in the Healey as we see it today. The extensive specification includes a superb body clad externally in aluminium panels finished in BMC Competition Racing Green with an Old English White factory hard top, a full roll-cage, a 'fast road' engine incorporating an alloy cylinder head with triple Weber carburettors, six-branch manifold, a straight-cut Tulip gearbox, alloy fuel tank, all round disc brakes, Minilite knock-on alloy wheels and a competition-style interior.Campaigned in historic rally events over the years with great success and remaining in outstanding condition throughout, the opportunity now arises for the next custodian to continue this venerable Healey's onward journey be that as a 'fast road' endurance car, an historic rally car or possibly further uprating to an FIA race car. An exciting opportunity with numerous possibilities and most of the hard work has been done.SpecificationMake: AUSTINModel: AUSTIN HEALEY MK1Year: 1961Chassis Number: HBt7L/14520Registration Number: 266 ARXTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 29ERUH/1961Drive Side: Right-hand DriveMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

Lot 411

Gorgeous, UK-supplied, right-hand drive, BN1, superbly restored and, amazingly, a detailed history from new. This outstanding Healey 100/4 BN1 was purchased in 1954 by Norman Harris of Belham Garage, Halifax, finished in Reno Red with a black interior piped in Red and at 600 miles he fitted the dealer supplied, ‘Le Mans’ kit to improve performance. He kept detailed records, which accompany the Healey, up until he sold the car in 1983 at which point it passed into the hands of Mr Tony Howe, an MG salesman at Appleyards in Huddersfield, who continued the care and attention provided by the previous owner and also kept detailed records of all service and repair work as and when required.  Acquired by the present custodian in 2008, the 100/4 required some remedial work to meet his fastidious standards and so a full rebuild commenced, starting with a new chassis and body panels all supplied by Steve Jowett at ‘UK Healey’. No stone was left unturned with all mechanical components receiving the same consideration as the remainder of the vehicle, with the engine, gearbox and final drive all being rebuilt alongside all ancillaries and associated fixtures and fittings. The finish and attention to detail is outstanding, with a recent 170-mile shakedown run completed without fault.  An exemplary Healey 100/4 to ‘M’ Spec, with a detailed and known history from day one, is a rare thing indeed and worthy of your serious consideration.SpecificationMake: AUSTIN-HEALEYModel: 100/4 BN1Year: 1954Chassis Number: BN1221984Registration Number: FCP 331Transmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 21264 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

Lot 412

Rare and desirable R V8 with less than 23,000 miles from long-term ownership. The MG RV8 was a hugely important step in the 1990s rebirth of MG Cars after more than a decade of only producing saloons and hatchbacks. Since Abingdon's closure in 1980, the illustrious MG badge had been reserved for the Metro, Maestro and Montego and, although these cars were worthy, what enthusiasts really wanted was a new MG roadster. In 1992, 12 years after the last MG sports car had rolled off the Abingdon production lines, Austin-Rover made the inspired decision to revive this most charismatic of British marques by introducing an entirely new model - the MG RV8.In creating the RV8, Rover very cleverly used a combination of off-the-shelf parts, such as the Range Rover's V8 engine and British Motor Heritage's MGB bodyshell. So, in this reincarnation of the MGB, the rubber bumper specification body was utilised and modified to accept a new set of beautifully curvaceous outer panels. The 3.9-litre Range Rover EFi V8 engine developed 188bhp and gave the RV8 enough power to crack 0-60 mph in just under six seconds which, even today, is pretty impressive. A 5-speed LT77 gearbox, derived from the Rover SD1 was used along with a new Salisbury axle. Very significant modifications were made to the suspension and brakes to bring the car up to date and the interior featured soft leather in Stone Beige and a Burr Elm facia and door cappings. The RV8 was shown at the 1993 Tokyo Motor Show creating a huge demand which resulted in nearly 1,600 examples (of the 1,983 total) being exported to Japan. Despite (or maybe because of) the RV8 being based on a 30-year old model, its classic status was assured from the day it was unveiled, and with less than 2,000 examples built between 1992 and 1995, the cars are now much sought after. No RV8s were ever sold in the US and consequently they are all right-hand drive. We believe that 1,583 RV8s went to Japan initially, but such has been the growing demand in recent years in the UK, that many have been sourced in Japan and returned to the these shores to join the 307 originally sold here. This delightful example did indeed travel to Japan but was not purchased second-hand over there as it was never sold in the first place. It was a very late production car fitted with air-conditioning (non-standard in the UK) but perhaps it arrived in Japan after demand had dwindled and was never registered, subsequently, returning home some months later prior to being bought by a doctor for his wife and registered in late 1999. It was purchased by its present owner, our vendor, in 2008 with excellent Woodcote Green paintwork but under the bonnet a number of the plated items had deteriorated necessitating a full strip and cosmetic reconditioning and replating. At the same time, the underbody was also repainted to achieve a perfect appearance and, whilst stripped, all brake pipes, calipers etc. were reconditioned, the car was 'poly-bushed', and a set of adjustable Spax Shocks were fitted as were four new tyres. Some corrosion to the screen frame was attended to with a new frame and screen supplied by Clive Wheatley. At the time of cataloguing, the odometer was indicating 22,858 miles. This superb RV8 has formed part of a private collection in recent years and, unlike many 'museum' exhibits, our fastidious vendor enjoys keeping his collection in absolutely top form. We encourage interested parties to take the opportunity to come and view this impressively presented MG.  SpecificationMake: MGModel: MG R V8Year: 1999Chassis Number: SARRAWBMBM002230Registration Number: T301 VNUTransmission: ManualEngine Number: TBADrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 22858 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Stone BeigeClick here for more details and images

Lot 472

Offered from The Twin Sparks Collection a delightfully presented Mk1 Sprite in a glorious colour combination.Intended to make sports car motoring more affordable, the Donald Healey-designed Sprite entered production at MG's Abingdon factory in March 1958. The new car was officially introduced a few months later in Monte Carlo, just prior to the Monte Carlo Rally, underlining this brand-new car's sporting intentions. Its unitary construction body shell featured a distinctive rearward-hinging, combined bonnet and wings, which was topped by two 'bugeye' headlamps, thus ensuring instant recognition and the now familiar nickname. The Sprite used independent front suspension with rack-and-pinion steering, ensuring great road holding. Despite a Spartan equipment level with even the front bumper listed as an extra, the 'Bugeye' sold well, which perhaps was unsurprising as there was nothing competing with it either on price or performance. It first went on sale at a price of £669, using a mildly tuned version of the Austin A-Series engine and many other components from existing cars to keep costs down. The little Sprite quickly became affectionately known as the 'Frogeye' in the UK and the 'Bugeye' in the US, because its headlights were prominently mounted on top of the bonnet, inboard of the front wings. Originally the designers had intended that the headlights could be retracted, with the lenses facing skyward when not in use; but cost-cutting by BMC led to the flip-up mechanism being deleted. The front sheet-metal assembly, including the bonnet and wings, was a one-piece unit, hinged from the back that swung up to allow access to the engine compartment. The 43bhp, 948cc engine was upgraded with twin 1 1/8" inch SU carburettors. The rack and pinion steering and suspension were derived from the Morris Minor with the front suspension made up of a coil spring and wishbone arrangement with the arm of the Armstrong lever shock absorber serving as the top suspension link. The rear axle was both located and sprung by quarter-elliptic leaf springs, again with lever-arm shock absorbers. There were no exterior door handles; the driver and passenger were required to reach inside to open the door, and there was no boot lid so access to the spare wheel and luggage compartment was achieved by tilting the seat-backs forward and reaching under the rear deck. This particular Sprite again ticked the many boxes required to make it into The Twin Sparks Collection. With its truly staggering finish, it is remarkable to see such attention to detail on a car where you typically see corners cut due to the affordable nature of the car in the first place, but a truly brilliant result has been achieved with this car. It was subjected to a retirement restoration project commencing in 2005, and finally completed in 2012. It lived 30 years of its life under single ownership and the restoration has simply brought it up to a ‘better than new’ standard. The bodywork and paint were professionally undertaken by a specialist in Rolls-Royce, which explains its high quality finish. The cars mechanical and electrical components were either restored or replaced to the original specification wherever possible. The 948cc A-Series engine was re-bored and fitted with new pistons, reground crankshaft, new bearings, timing chain, sprockets as well as oil and water pumps. The only diversions from standard specification were the popular choices of fitting the improved 12G295 cylinder head, replacing the original SU Carburettors with 1¼ in replacements, a superior ‘ribbed’ gearbox driving through a 1098cc type flywheel and clutch assembly, all built to make the car have that little more poke and an enhanced driving feel. The original seats and interior trim have all been reupholstered in navy blue vinyl with a matching hood. The original steel wheels are wrapped in Continental tyres and the car can simply be described as ‘meticulously detailed’. Within the history file, you’ll find a huge stack of invoices for parts and labour for the car, an original Special Tuning Booklet, Workshop Manual and correspondence between the buyer and the builder. With a full restoration, regular mechanical attention, only 100 miles since completion and very sensibly guided, this is arguably the best Frogeye Sprite currently on the market.SpecificationMake: AUSTINModel: HEALEY SPRITEYear: 1959Chassis Number: AN511884Registration Number: 822 VMUTransmission: ManualEngine Number: 9C-V-H11373Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 28 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Navy Blue VinylClick here for more details and images

Lot 474

Offered from The Twin Sparks Collection. One of the last of the line and in simply outstanding order, this Twin Cam has recently benefited from an £18,000 engine refresh in 2020.The MGA was announced on 26th September 1955 and officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show that year, replacing the visually aged MG TF, signifying a complete styling change-up from MG’s earlier sports car iterations. The TF could’ve been mistaken for a pre-war car to the untrained eye and the MGA was a welcome breath of fresh air. Over 100,000 units were built with production ending in 1962, with the vast majority of cars being exported, with just 5,869 home market cars. Clad in a sleek, aerodynamic body, benefiting from independent suspension and rack and pinion steering, the MGA proved an instant hit, selling 13,000 units in its first full year of production.Immensely popular though it was, the 'A' faced stiff competition from the larger-engined Triumph TR3 and Austin Healey 100/6. Coaxing more power from the standard MGA engine was becoming increasingly difficult, so development was concentrated on a twin-overhead-camshaft cylinder head for the B-Series block. Conceived at Cowley by BMC engineer Gerald Palmer and introduced in 1958, the new 1,588cc engine did not disappoint. It featured a special light alloy cross-flow cylinder head with hemispherical combustion chambers and carried twin overhead camshafts with valve operation via Coventry Climax-style inverted bucket tappets, producing an impressive 108bhp at 6,700rpm. Considerably faster than the standard MGA, the Twin Cam could comfortably exceed 110mph, and to cope with the increased performance Dunlop disc brakes were fitted all round and Dunlop centre-lock wheels were a distinctive addition. The only other visual identifier was the script 'Twin Cam' near the vent aside the bonnet. A high price and an unjustified reputation for unreliability discouraged sales and the model was dropped after just two years. Production totalled 2,111 cars, a mere 360 of which were sold on the home market, and today the Twin-Cam is rightfully one of the most sought-after of post-war MG sports cars. This example is a 1959 MGA Twin Cam which was originally sold as a Complete Knock Down (CKD) car to South Africa, as confirmed by the Heritage Certificate, but always a right-hand drive car, not a conversion that is so commonly seen. It was one of the last eleven cars produced, it thus has a 1600 body and the last and best version of the folding hood. Finished in Chariot Red with red trim, and specified with disc wheels, windscreen washer, twin horns, oil cooler and two fog lamps. It left South Africa in the mid-2000s and spent some time in Austria and Germany before returning to the UK around 2013.Without doubt, the most notable section in the car's history file is the engine rebuild by Peter Wood of Westwood Portway. The invoices and updates of the 9 month project are all handwritten and hugely detailed, reading like a fascinating novel. With Westwood being regarded as the guru of the MG Twin-Cam engine, perfection was as close to guaranteed as one could imagine, and with a cost exceeding £18,000 one would hope so! The engine rebuild was required as our vendor discovered a slight rattle from the engine soon after its purchase, and wanted the car to be perfect, so away it went for its mechanical freshen-up. Alongside the substantial bills are a series of photos documenting the engine rebuild throughout its time at Westwood, showing the level of attention paid to ensure it was just right. Additionally, there is some German paperwork and photos of its time there, a UK V5C, the car's Heritage Certificate, and a few old MOTs. There is also an invoice (£808) for a full wet flat and machine polish and chrome wax by SJD Classic Restorations in 2018 to get the MG looking its best before going into the Collection. As with all of the cars within The Twin Sparks Collection, this car is a spectacular example of a Twin-Cam Roadster that fires up instantly with that pleasing raspy engine note and performs impeccably. It is essentially two cars in one as below 3,500rpm  you have a docile town car and above that and all the way to red line, the car comes ‘on cam’ and is a wildly elevated experience. Very sensibly guided for what is an immaculate example of a very late MGA Twin-Cam Roadster.SpecificationMake: MGModel: MGA TWIN CAMYear: 1960Chassis Number: YD22600Registration Number: 329 UYETransmission: ManualEngine Number: 16G/U/120Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 11269 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: BlackClick here for more details and images

Lot 497

Offered from 34-years private ownership, a fabulous right-hand drive 190 SL presenting beautifully in its original paint colour and retaining many original features. The 1955 launch of the 190 SL cemented Mercedes-Benz's reputation as the car manufacturer for those who wanted elegance, build quality and a good turn of speed. Unsurprisingly, most of the 26,000 units were sold to the North American market and, it's believed, just some 562 were made in right-hand drive. Although stunningly pretty, the 190 SL had stiff competition in the UK from domestic sports car manufacturers such as Jaguar, Austin-Healey and the significantly cheaper models from MG. Consequently, a UK-supplied 190 SL is perhaps the rarest of all sports cars from that era, especially compared to the huge number of cars sold to countries who drive on the other side of the road.Offered here is one of those 562 UK-supplied, right-hand drive cars and this example was first registered for use here in the summer of 1959. Fresh to market for the first time in 34 years, ‘5 BOF’ is only available as part of a deceased estate and once formed part of an eclectic collection of landmark classics from around the world. The owner, a gentleman and successful businessman, travelled the world for both work and pleasure and, as a lifelong motoring enthusiast, would often discover an interesting motorcar and add it to the Collection. This 190 SL was discovered in the UK in the late 1980s, added to the Collection and, over the years, has been subject to a mechanical overhaul and bodywork restoration. Many mechanical components including the engine appear to have been rebuilt and, on test, the 190 SL fired into life on-the-button and sounded very healthy. The paintwork is fresh and panel gaps are very good with the black fabric hood fitting well and hardtop also presenting nicely. It's accompanied by a history file which contains a number of old MOTs, the original handbook and the current V5C registration papers ready for export or change of keeper. Also forming part of the sale are a period Becker Mexico TR stereo (perhaps original) the original Solex carburettors and airbox as seen in the images. The attractive Cherished Registration Number does form part of the sale and will stay with the car.Continuing the late owner’s programme of improvements with some careful detailing would really lift this SL to the next level and, as such, is offered at a very sensible guide. Perfectly useable as is, this is an opportunity to own one of the most beautiful sportscars ever manufactured, rare in right-hand drive, with the potential to really add value.SpecificationMake: MERCEDES-BENZModel: 190SLYear: 1959Chassis Number: 12104020014566Registration Number: 5 BOFTransmission: ManualDrive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 29500 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: MagnoliaClick here for more details and images

1947 Austin 8 1056cc four door saloon In current family ownership since 1998 and only 37000 recorded and credible miles   Registration: MEV 39 Chassis: AS190418 Odometer: 37000 Transmission:  Manual MOT:  Exempt No Reserve    .Original front seats in patinated brown leather    .Service history dating back until 1954 and MOT certificates back until 1966    .Correct steel wheels    .Sliding steel sunroof and opening windscreen    .Rear window sun blind fitted    .Original specification under the bonnet    .Drivers’ handbook    .Fitted with a Smiths rheostat heater    .Body restoration to the sum of £4300 circa 1995    Outside This charming Austin 8 presents very well indeed and evidently the subject of an older restoration circa 1995. The body appears to be free of rust however there are some small stone chips on most panels and a few minor blemishes. The chrome work is serviceable but pitted in areas. The wheels are in good order with tyres with plenty of tread. Pleasingly both the opening windscreen and sliding steel sunroof are both operational. Inside The interior is in original specification which is quite rare with the exception of the rear seats which have been re-trimmed. The seats and door cards are without splits or tears and the headlining is undamaged. The carpets are good and the dashboard and steering wheel are without issue. Mechanicals The Austin whilst currently not running appears to be totally complete and as it was when put into storage. Obviously, it will require a level of recommissioning before returning to the road. History The history file dates back to a charming Energol service record folder that dates back to 1954 up until 1958. Documents on file indicate a body restoration amounting to circa £4300 whilst in the previous ownership around 1995.From insurance documents on file it would indicate that the Austin was still in use in 2019 and the service records would appear to support the recorded mileage of 37000. Our Opinion This is a rare opportunity to acquire and early post war Austin that is very close in specification to how it would have left the factory in Longbridge in 1947. The condition would indicate that a gentle recommissioning would return the car to the road and provide fabulous 1940s motoring for not a lot of outlay.
