Lot 810a

Untitled, Surreal landscape with door and two owls in a tree, oil on thin board, signed lower left and dated '69. Provenance: This small painting was gifted to the consigner by a descendent of a prominent Mexican family who owned and operated a resort outside of Mexico City, where many artists of renown vacationed in the 50s and 60s. Overall size: 8 x 10 in. Sight size: 4 1/4 x 6 1/4 in. Painting size: 5 x 7 in. Gertrude Abercrombie was an American painter known for her modestly scaled Surrealist works. Born in Austin, Texas, her parents worked for an opera company that traveled around America and Europe. The family eventually settled in Chicago, where Abercrombie went on to study languages at the University of Illinois and attended classes at the School of the Art Institute Chicago. She painted many variations through the years of her favored subjects: sparsely furnished interiors, barren landscapes, and self-portraits. Abercrombie argued that technique was not as important as ideas and developed a style emulating Naive artists. She took little interest in other artists' work, although she admired Rene Magritte. Largely self-taught, Abercrombie did not regard her lack of extensive formal training as a hindrance. She said of her work, "I am not interested in complicated things nor in the commonplace. My work comes directly from my inner consciousness and it must come easily. It is a process of selection and reduction." During the 1930s, Abercrombie became friends with several jazz musicians including Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie, and often hosted music sessions and parties in her home. By the late 1950s her health declined due to financial trouble, alcoholism, and arthritis, and she became reclusive. After 1959 her paintings diminished in number as well as scale. In the final year of her life, a major retrospective of her work was held at the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago.

1937 Austin 12/4 SaloonReg. no. FPL 26Chassis no. H52240Engine no. 1H 52950The Twelve model was introduced in 1921, but it was only after the introduction of the six-cylinder Light Twelve, that the model was then known as the Heavy Twelve Four. After a minor facelift in 1935, the 12/4 was substantially redesigned for 1937, with all-steel bodywork incorporating a proper boot. A ‘definite advance in appearance, performance and general style’ declared The Autocar, reviewing the new Austins. This super example finished in black, presents very well, with a lovely original interior. It has been kept in a heated garage for many years and has been cherished, being used for local shows since 1984. It will require some minor recommissioning prior to use following a period of storage. It is offered with a blue V5C, an old V5, the original buff logbook and various old MOT certificates etc.Estimate: £4,000 - 6,000To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. 1937 Ford Model Y Tudor SaloonReg. no. CFJ 566Chassis no. T169331Engine no. RY1304710PCIn Britain the Austin Seven brought motoring to the millions, and other companies were quick to see an opportunity. Ford’s offering was the Model Y Tudor, a simple yet attractive model that proved very popular. This example was purchased in 2003 in pieces and then fully restored over the following two years. It still presents well and according to our vendor, runs and drives very well, even winning the Ford Y and C Club Best Restoration award. 1993 Rover Maestro Clubman DReg. no. L811 DOXChassis no. SAXXCHWJ7AM705044Engine no. BB504010662351Transmission: ManualMileage: 91,778MOT: Expired An often-overlooked car that graced the driveways of many UK families in the 1990s, the Rover Maestro was the reliable and dependable hatchback that superseded the Austin Allegro. The 5-door hatch pioneered some interesting features for its class including body coloured bumpers, Electronic engine management and adjustable height front seat belts. Fitted with the Perkins diesel like this clubman D, there are only 23 currently registered on UK roads.Acquired by its current owner in 2006, this Rover has enjoyed a quiet life in the Cotswolds being used as a run around until October 2018, since then it has been undercover. The blue paint with red pin stripe appears in good condition and the period alloy wheels really make the car stand out. The interior is also fair for its age whilst the engine and gearbox are reported to be in good working order. The only alteration from factory appears to be the fitting of a tow bar at some point. No longer required by its current owner, they wish to see it go to someone who will love and cherish what is now quite a rare car. Previous online and paper MOT history appear to back up the current odometer reading. The sale includes a current V5 document showing just three former keepers as well as old MOT’s and some parts receipts.Estimate: £1,000 - £1,500To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. Lot 4

1937 Austin 18/6 York 7-seater saloonReg. no. DOM 485Chassis no. E/RZ51619Engine no. 1FE12311The Austin 18 was introduced in 1937 and was supplied in two different wheelbases to carry five or seven passengers. Its engine and front seat were mounted nine inches further forward than that of its predecessor, the York Sixteen. The chassis was also extended by three inches, giving plenty more passenger space. This example appears to be very original and presents very well, having been in a heated garage for many years. DOM 485 has been in current ownership since 1985, purchased from a gentleman from Lickey End, Bromsgrove, very close to the Austin home. The car will require some recommissioning following a period of storage, but when last used a few years ago, this large Austin performed as you would expect. It is offered with a receipt for the 1985 purchase and a copy of an old V5.Estimate: £3,000 - 5,000To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. Viewing is welcome prior to sale and all cars are sold as seen, condition reports can be requested on each lot by contacting us direct. Lots are not available to buy prior to auction. 1930s Austin 12/4 SaloonReg. no. BOR 755Chassis no. H/BX 22380Engine no. t.b.aThis is second 1930s Austin 12/4 in our sale, but this example is slightly earlier with the early to mid-1930s styling. This is the second car to be pulled from a Croydon lockup after many years of storage. The bodywork appears to be sound and the original interior is still in very good condition for its age. Clearly the car hasn’t run for many years but this is a very worthwhile project; there aren’t any documents and we believe them to be lost.**Catalogue amendment: we have a V5 and an old buff logbook with this car.**Estimate: £800 – 1,200To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. Viewing is welcome prior to sale and all cars are sold as seen, condition reports can be requested on each lot by contacting us direct. Lots are not available to buy prior to auction. 1989 Austin Mini ThirtyReg. no. G186 RNDChassis no. SAXXL2S1N20435485Engine no. 99HE200111130Transmission: ManualMileage: 52,830MOT: September 2023 In order to celebrate 30 years of the birth of arguably the most iconic British people’s car of all time, Austin produced the limited edition Mini Thirty. The exterior of this example is painted in an attractive maroon with unique badges and decals; the interior received attractive black seats with red piping, red leather clad steering wheel and red carpet. It is thought that 3,000 of these were made with around 400 currently registered on UK roads. Fitted with the 998cc A series engine but weighing in at under 700kgs, they were renowned for their road holding. This example has recently been restored to a high standard and as a result sits in fantastic condition. Having been off the road from 2006 until 2016, restoration began soon after. The body was professionally restored with any rust rectified, it looks to be straight and the paint shines fantastically along with the chrome work. The clutch assembly, alternator and water pump were all reconditioned or replaced and four brand new tyres were also fitted. With an MOT until September 2023, the car is ready to be used and enjoyed for the 2023 show season and beyond. The sale includes a current V5 document showing six previous owners. It has its original Mini manuals as well as the special Mini Thirty brochure. A folder of history includes paperwork from as far back as when the car was on just 5,000 miles, right up until 2022. Included are a number of old MOT’s that appear to back up the little car’s low mileage.Estimate: £8,000 - £10,000To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. Viewing is welcome prior to sale and all cars are sold as seen, condition reports can be requested on each lot by contacting us direct. Lots are not available to buy prior to auction. 1961 Austin-Healey SpriteReg: VCO87Chassis No. AN5/48796Engine No. 9C-U-H-48504 Started in 1952 as the Donald Healey Motor Company in Warwick the first cars were powered by the 2660cc Austin Atlantic engine and called the Healey Hundred in view of its anticipated top speed of 100 mph. The 2-seater sports car was spotted by the head of the newly formed BMC and a deal was struck in 1952 at the London Motor Show where the car would be made by Austin and was sold as the Austin-Healey 100. In 1958 a small sports car was introduced powered by a tuned version of the 948cc engine as used in the Austin A35. The headlamps projected from the low bonnet and gave the car its distinctive appearance and it earned the nickname of ‘The Frog-eye’. The car on offer is one of 48,999 built on this chassis, according to Midget and Sprite Car Club certificates in the file, between May 1958 to May 1961 making this car one built towards the end of production. VCO 87 was registered on 17th April 1961 and is offered as part of a deceased estate. The late owner embarked on a full restoration of the car doing some of the work himself and entrusting some to professionals. There is a large amount of paperwork in its extensive history file relating to all the works that were carried out. A glance at this paperwork shows that nothing was left to chance and practically everything was done.Presented in light green the bodywork is in excellent condition. The interior has been retrimmed in green leather and new carpets fitted.  Although not shown in the photographs the car has the advantage of a new hood and side screens for those wet days we might have.Since the restoration the car has been used sparingly and been kept in ideal conditions in the garage.  Having seen so little use in the last three years a purchaser would be advised to do a light recommissioning although the car has been started regularly, the battery kept on trickle charge and it has driven a short distance. The Car comes with a current V5, an extensive history file, some copies of the Sprite Club magazine, old MOT Certificates as well as 3 copies of The Sprite and Midget workshop manuals (one of them published by British Leyland) and a Guide to purchase and Restoration by Lindsay Porter.Estimate: £15,000 - 18,000To be auctioned along with a fantastic selection of other vehicles on March 5th at our Showell Farm site, SN15 2NU. Viewing is welcome prior to sale and all cars are sold as seen, condition reports can be requested on each lot by contacting us direct. Lots are not available to buy prior to auction.
