WW2 Royal Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross (D.F.C) & Distinguished Flying Medal (D.F.M) Winners Tunic Attributed to Flight Lieutenant Holliday, standard RAF officers four pocket service dress tunic with brass kings crown tunic buttons and fixed waist belt. Padded kings crown RAF pilots wings above tunic medal ribbon bars of Distinguished Flying Cross, Distinguished Flying Medal and 1939-45 star. Rank lace to the cuffs. Area of damage to one arm and expected service wear. Interior pocket having Austin Reed tailors label with inked name “HOLLIDAY F O”.The award of the Distinguished Flying Medal (D.F.M) was awarded whilst serving with No70 Squadron, the citation for the award is as follows, “As a Captain of aircraft Sergeant Holliday has shown a fine spirit and set an excellent example to the other members of his flight. During a recent period of intensive operations he continued to fly although suffering from a disability which necessitated his neck and chin being bandaged.”He earnt the Distinguished Flying Cross (D.F.C) whilst serving with No105 Squadron, the citation for the award is as follows, “Now on his second tour of operational duty, this officer has participated in many sorties against important and heavily defended German industrial targets. He has throughout shown courage and cool judgement which coupled with his outstanding skill as a pilot, have enabled him to complete many difficult missions.”

(California), n.d. (1980), to Ron (sic) Deeley. Watson thanks his correspondent for their letters and adds that he hopes that he will also write to his wife, Kristin Joan Svege, continuing to provide her address and further adding 'We have a ministry called Abounding Love Ministries. We distribute my teaching tapes. So if you want some write Kristin. O.K. Hope you read my book “Will You Die For Me”', also remarking 'You ask about sending me stuff. My needs are met in the Lord. So no need to send anything. We want to bless you! I would sure love to pet your dogs. I miss dogs. Not pet one in 11 years. Boo Whoo!' The inside of the card also features some printed text and a religious quotation from the Gospel of Matthew. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Watson and bearing his printed return address label. About EX Charles 'Tex' Watson was portrayed by Austin Butler in Quentin Tarantino's film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019).

A good hardbound 4to menu for a Luncheon in Honour of Miss Amy Johnson, being ‘A Tribute from Representatives of British Youth & Achievement in all Activities of Life to Her Courage and Endurance during her Historic Flight from England to Australia May 5-24, 1930’, hosted by the proprietors of the Daily Mail at the Savoy Hotel, London, on 6th August 1930, signed to two inside pages by over twenty individuals present at the luncheon, including Richard Richardson (Lord Mayor of Hull, the city of birth of Johnson) and his wife, the Lady Mayoress, the Deputy Lord Mayor, and the Sheriff of Hull and his wife, Woolf Barnarto (1895-1948, British Financier & Racing Driver, one of the ‘Bentley Boys’ of the 1920s and winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Race in 1928, 1929 & 1930), Eileen Fearnley-Whittingstall (1907-1979, English Tennis Player who won six Grand Slam doubles titles 1927-31), Harry Gordon Selfridge Jr. (1900-1976, Son of Harry Gordon Selfridge Sr., founder of the department store Selfridges), John William Johnson and Amy Johnson (the parents of Amy Johnson), William Morris (1877-1963, 1st Viscount Nuffield, English Motor Manufacturer & Philanthropist), George Sutton (Managing Director of Associated Newspapers), Mildred Bruce (1895-1990, Mrs. Victor Bruce, British Record-Breaking Racing Motorist, Speedboat Racer and Aviatrix of the 1920s and 1930s), Sylvia Thompson (1902-1968, English Novelist), Diana Fishwick (1912-1998, English Women’s Golf Champion), H. I’m a Russian’), William McWhirter (English Editor of the Sunday Pictorial and Managing Director of Associated Newspapers 1944-50, father of Norris and Ross McWhirter, founders of Guinness World Records), Violette Cordery (1900-1983, British Racing Driver & Long Distance record breaker), Jack Hylton (1892-1965, English Pianist & Band Leader), Lupino Lane (1892-1959, English Actor & Theatre Manager), Jean Forbes-Robertson (1905-1962, English Actress), P. H. Fearon (1874-1948, British Cartoonist for the Daily Mail, known as ‘Poy’; alongside an original pencil caricature of the Brighton hotelier Harry Preston), Richard Hughes (1900-1976, British Writer) etc. All have signed in bold pencil or dark fountain pen inks. The menu includes a Sonnet in Homage to Johnson by Robert Nichols, an essay entitled Dea Ex Machina by Sylvia Thompson and illustrated with six photographs of Johnson taken at various stages of her historic flight, a Guest List organised by profession, and the cover features a reproduction of a painting by Joan Manning Sanders (some tears and age wear). Accompanied by the loosely inserted original printed oblong 8vo invitation card issued to Annie Croft and a printed table plan for the luncheon. With the ink ownership signature of Annie Croft (1896-1995, English Stage Actress, mother of the writer & producer David Croft) to the upper edge of the front cover. The binding is a little loose and with some light overall age wear, G

INCE THOMAS H.: (1882-1924) American Silent Film Director. An extremely rare T.L.S., Thos. H. Ince, one page, 4to, Los Angeles, 15th December 1920, to Mr. H. Austin Adams. Ince states that he understands that Mr. Ritchie 'has informed you that I am in receipt of another long letter from Mr. Meredith, the present Secretary of Agriculture' and continues 'The letter shows great interest in the proposal I outlined to the Department and is full of suggestions that I intend using when the new administration comes into power', further remarking 'It would, of course, be impossible for me to predict how the scheme will appeal to an unknown appointee, but I shall endeavour to reopen the matter as soon as after the inauguration as possible'. Autographs of Ince are extremely rare in any form following his untimely death at the age of 42 in mysterious circumstances on board William Randolph Hearst's yacht. One very light, extremely minor paperclip rust stain to the upper edge, not affecting the text or signature, VG

Wilding (rare signed piece by the Wimbledon tennis champion of 1910, 1911, 1912 & 1913), Eleanor Roosevelt, Eugenie de Montijo, William C. Redfield, William Sulzer, Thomas R. Marshall, Sidney Herbert (two A.Ls.S., one referring to cholera and stating, in part, 'I am afraid it is now become one of our national diseases…..we have had some cases in London. 5 out of 7 men have died in…..the guards. Mr. Algernon Percy who had just returned from some foreign Court where he had been minister was with Ld. Palmerston at 3 o'clock on Friday & died before 7 next morning - but there is much less alarm than there was last year. The cases are fewer tho' the deaths are more in proportion', 19th August 1833), Giuseppe Garibaldi (small A.L.S. stating, in full, 'I am very grateful in name of my country to the Captain G. Austin Dolmage for his good service and gallantry for the cause of freedom'), Elizabeth Thompson, Lady Butler, and other members of the aristocracy etc. (many associated with Ireland).
