Industrial Revolution – Postal History – Bishop Mark 1670 ms letter from John Hancock to Peter Clayton at John Morris^ Austin Friars^ London dated Gloucester August 31st 1670^ saying that he had received a letter from Carmarthenshire saying that ‘Mr Moorer is dead and buried^ Mr Rutlands agent at Kidwilly forge and what remained at the forge &c on Abraham Heely of Carmarthen hat got an administracion of Moorers goods and by virtue thereof hath seezed and carried away all Mr Rutlands stocke of pigg iron.’ The address panel on this letter carries an early example of a Bishop Mark. Kidwelly Forge began production in 1648. John Rutland and John Moorer were well known ironmasters at Kidwelly.

A Royal Worcester porcelain two handled potpourri vase and cover, circa 1908, the bulbous body painted by Austin, signed, with pink and yellow roses beneath a pierced gallery rim, flanked by green glazed angular handles, the cover with pierced floral panels, green printed and painted factory marks to base, height approx 18cm.
