Ron Arad (Né en 1951) & STUDIO RON ARAD (Éditeur) "Big heavy", 1989 Fauteuil en acier patiné à arêtes polies, structure cintrée formant d`un seul tenant assise et dossier galbés. Signature incisée «Ron Arad», numéroté. A patinated and polished steel "Big Heavy" armchair, designed in 1989. Signed "Ron Arad" and numbered. Haut. 66 cm - Prof. 92 cm - Larg. 68 cm - Height. 26 in. - Width. 26 3/4 in. - Length. 26 3/4 in. The "Big Heavy" comes from an edition of just 20 in patinated steel. It is a sculptural design characteristic of Ron Arad. We see his curved forms, almost organic, interpreted here in a sculptural method which is the trademark of this creator. In the mid-eighties, Arad produced a series of chairs and tables in soldered steel, a technique which offers greater freedom of form than the standard Kee Klamp system used previously most notably for the Rover Chair. Throughout the ten following years, Arad continued to use steel widely in his furniture, soldering also remaining a recurring technique, the raw aspect, craftsmanlike, is reinforced by the use of polished or patinated steel, fashioned sometimes with a rubber mallet. In 1981 Ron Arad co-founded with Caroline Thorman the design and production studio "One Off" before creating in 1989 the architecture and design agency "Ron Arad Associate". Rolf Fehlbaum, owner of Vitra, asked Arad in 1986 to create a piece for Vitra Edition. Already producers for the Italians Ettore Sottsass and Gaetano Pesce, the Dutch gallerist Ernest Mourmans persuaded Arad, at the end of the eighties, that he could profit from limited production of the series, each of which comprise a maximum of twenty copies.
