A 1965 Austin Champ 1/4 ton 4x4 CT light truck, registration BHW 59C: chassis number 4130, Vehicle 41 BE 30, 6/VEH/5931, 2386cc petrol engine, cast iron cylinder head stamped UNF, 16391 miles, green with canvas tilt, the body mounted pick axe, shovel , jerry can and spare wheel, together with worn spare tilt, starting handle and relevant paperwork. * Notes Inspired by The Willys Jeep the specification for a British Army light truck was issued in the 1940s, After 30 various types of prototype the Austin Motor Company was awarded the contract to supply 15,000 and the first one produced rolled off the production line in 1951. More expensive and less adaptable than the Land Rover the contract was amended and only 11,000 were eventually supplied to the British Army.

This is confirmed by the special 'Autobiography' commission plate next to the VIN plate in the engine compartment. It has had six owners from new (including Land Rover Special Vehicles) and has covered a little over 167,000 miles, an average of less than 8,500 miles per year. (The engine and clutch were replaced on 21st October 2013 at 112,303 miles at cost of £6,582.) Since then the Discovery has been serviced and maintained by Guy Salmon Land Rover, Northampton. The Discovery comes with full service history documented in its Land Rover Service Record Book, which is supported by detailed invoices accumulated by the present and immediate previous owner. There is also a large presentation folder with comprehensive documentation and photographs, while other accompanying paperwork includes all past MoT certificates (except 2008 and 2012), a host of road tax discs, an IAEA-approved independent consulting engineer's valuation report (November 2019), a BMIHT Certificate and detailed VED history. Also included are the original launch Press Release and two original launch photographs, a feature article from Land Rover Owner International magazine (December 2015 edition) and Autocar Letter of the Week (17 January 2018) and a Guinness World Record certificate and souvenir items from the World's largest parade of Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles, which was held at Great Billing, Northamptonshire on 30th June 2018. When purchased in 2013, the rear VHS player was found to be missing and irreplaceable from Land Rover or other sources; and one of the 2 viewing screens broken and beyond repair. Intended to provide basic transport in a period of post-war austerity, the 2CV outlived its humble beginnings, going on to attain cult status as the favoured car of the environmentally-concerned motorist. It was built in civilian, military, and commercial versions; the latter, a small delivery van, being known as the 'Fourgonette'. A rare right-hand drive example, the Fourgonette offered here has the desirable 602cc engine. Professionally restored in 2018/2019 by the vendor's company, Spray Booth Ltd, the vehicle is rated by him as excellent throughout and is said to run 'sweet as a nut'.
