Jonathan Buck (18th century) "Estimate for Erecting a Turnpike Gate at Camar Place" Signed and dated 28th May 1807, extensively inscribed verso, pen, ink and watercolour, 22.5cm by 18cm; together with Beggar seated beneath a Tree Signed and dated 1776, numbered verso, pencil and slight wash, 11cm by 16cm (2) Reputedly Jonathan Buck was related to Adam Buck (1759-1833) of Cork, the famous portrait and miniature painter
American School, circa 1800: Portrait Miniature of a Gentleman, half length, his powdered grey hair en queue, wearing a ruffled jabot, striped white waistcoat and aubergine jacket, oval, 4cm by 3.1cm, the gold metal frame with beaded edge, the reverse with glazed panel edged in seed pearls with a mounted curl of hair within a berried laurel wreath, ring for suspension; and A 9ct Gold Muff Chain, with dog clip fastener, overall parallel length 74.5cm (2)
Attributed to Charles Shirreff (b.1750): Portrait of a Gentleman, circa 1790, his powdered hair en queue, turning to sinister, wearing white shirt and blue overcoat, against a sky background, oval, 6cm by 5.2cm, in gold metal closed back frame with vase form suspension loop Charles Shirreff was born in Scotland - possibly in Edinburgh. He entered the R.A. Schools 9 August 1769. He was working in Bath 1791-95, and is said to have worked in Brighton, Deptford and Cambridge. He went to India to work in 1797, and worked in Madras and Calcutta for some length of time. This miniature shows some of the characteristics of his work - especially the use of criss-cross hatching for both modelling features and shading backgrounds. English School, circa 1780: Profile Portrait Miniature of a Gentleman, bust length, his hair in a ribbon tied pigtail, wearing a ruffled jabot and broad lappelled overcoat, in grey/apricot en camaieu against solid blue ground, oval, 6.5cm by 5cm, the reverse with cream watered silk panel painted with a view of cupid inscribing a rock with initials RSC in a woodland with billing doves, in gilt metal frame The sitter bears a striking resemblance to David Garrick - although the reverse inscription RSC cannot refer to the Royal Shakespeare Company, as it was not founded until 1961.

A GROUP OF TWENTY FIVE INDIAN MINIATURES probably on ivory including eight 1" oval views of scenes around AGRA, THE RED FORT etc. A pair 2 1/2" x 2" oval scenes of The TAJ MAHAL and THE RED FORT. Three 1/4" oval scenes loose and mounted on paper, `Road Leading to Fort House Malabar Hill` plus two. Eight 1/4" circular RED FORT plus other scenes in one frame. A rectangular portrait of MUMTAZ MAHAL, THIRD WIFE OF SHAH JAHAN, 3" x 2 1/2". Three further oval images presumably of MUMTAZ MAHAL, 2 3/4" x 2 1/2", 2 1/2" x 2", 2" x 1 1/2", plus two further associated early 19th Century miniature portraits of the girls perhaps sisters, 3 1/4" x 2 1/2" and 3" x 2 1/2", in gilt brass frames, all contained within a velvet lined mahogany glazed display case with boxwood edging, 17 1/4" x 12" overall (see illustration).
