Guernsey interest - An important portrait miniature of Daniel de Lisle Brock signed 'Elizabeth Le Bas del Guernsey' and dated 1823 in pencil to right hand margin, the circular watercolour on ivory depicting Brock half-length, dressed in a black double breasted coat with high collar, white stock and cravat, 4in. (10.2cm.) diameter, in the original giltwood frame. * This portrait is almost identical to that famously used on the Guernsey £1 banknote.
Sir George Hayter (1792-1871) Portrait of William Hanmer Esquire (1792-1872) half length wearing period costume together with a red cape, signed and dated 1826, also inscribed M.A.S.L, a further old label attached to the stretcher, with details of the sitter, and the artists name, oil on canvas, 92 x 71 cm, **The artist studied at the Royal Academy schools and in 1815 was awarded 200 guineas by the British Institution, and in that year was appointed miniature painter to Princess Charlotte and the Prince of Saxe-Coburg. He studied in Italy 1815- 1818, and in 1825 his picture of the "Trial of Lord William Russell" became widely known through it being produced as an engraving. He was appointed as portrait and history painter to Queen Victoria in 1837, painting her coronation ceremony, as well as her state portrait, for which he was knighted in 1842. He enjoyed a lucrative practice as a fashionable portrait painter.

Late 18th/early 19th century English School, circle of John Smart (1712-1811) British, Portrait miniature of William, Duke of Clarence (1765-1837) subsequently HM King William IV, wearing the breast-star of the Order of The Garter, watercolour on ivory, 5.5cms x 4.5cms. Footnote; This depiction of William, Duke of Clarence would seem to be unique. Research of the National Portrait Gallery and The Royal Collections has so far shown that it differs from the existing well known images painted by Thomas Gainsborough, Charles Jagger and Henry Dawe.
