SCOTTISH SCHOOL (19TH CENTURY) HON. JOHN KENNEDY-ERSKINE oval portrait miniature, in pierced gilt metal frame. 9.5cm high, 6.5cm wide Note: Hon. John Kennedy-Erskine was born on 4th June 1802. He was the son of Sir Archibald Kennedy, 1st Marquess of Ailsa and Margaret Erskine. He was given the name of John Kennedy at birth. He lived at Dun, Angus, Scotland.
18TH CENTURY ENGLISH SCHOOL "Gentleman in grey wig, blue jacket, and armour breast plate", possibly Sir William Dick Baronet of Prestonfield, Edinburgh, Scotland, portrait miniature, oil on copper, unsigned, housed in a leather case, the back of the inner removeable velvet covered frame/mount bearing an inscription on paper "This miniature picture is of Sir William Dick Bt of prestonfield deceased ... immediat elder Brother to Sir Alexander Dick Bt his .... successor in the title and estate given him by his niece the Countess of Ballcarres August 3 1779" (sic), 8 cm x 6 cm CONDITION REPORTS This picture comes from a local private vendor, there is no provenance with the picture. The case leather is scratched and flaking to the top all over and especially to the hinge to the back. The silk behind the easel stand is ripped. Inside the velvet is dirty and worn to the two middle sections where it has been pressed against the miniature. The glass has small chip to the top. Under UV light through the glass the painting has a few small dark dots near the bottom of the picture and a couple of small dark dots to his hair, but otherwise the painting has an overall even slightly milky appearance. In natural light the surface of the painting has an all over textured / bobbled appearance. There is a scratch to the miniature in the right top quarter. Generally in need of a clean.

The vendor states that the portrait is by descent of the family is a portrait of William Lambert of Woodmansterne

He is wearing scarlet coatee with Royal blue facings. Across the breast gold bullion floral embroidery and the right shoulder a single gold bullion epaulette. Signed “Arnold”. Mounted into a gold coloured metal locket frame. Detail and colours remain very good. Height of oval 6cm Artist believed to be R.E. Arnold Circa 1791.

English School (late 19th Century) Portrait miniature of William Shakespeare (1564-1616), in a black jacket with white collar watercolour on ivory 5cm (2in) Condition in general is good. Some scratches to the frame. Dirt under the glass. A very small area of raised abrasion to the lower left area, next to the sitter's shoulder. Ivory support a little ill fitting in frame.
French School (circa 1900) Portrait miniature of Mademoiselle Madeleine-Pauline Dacruet watercolour on ivory, in a gilt leaf chased frame 10cm (4in) Without glass. Needs refixing in frame. Some surface abrasions present. Some surface dirt present. Area of yellowing abrasion above sitter's head.
