PORTRAIT DE L’EMPEREUR JAHANGIR (1569-1627) Miniature, gouache et dorure sur ivoire, représentant l’empereur Jahangir, debout, de profil, auréolé, richement vêtu d’une tunique brodée de fleurs doré, paré de bijoux en perles et tenant un globe dans sa main droite et son chamchir de la main gauche. Provenance: Christies, South Kensington, 15th December, 2000, sale no. 8968, lot no. 71.
After ELSIABETH - LOUISE VIGEE LEBRUN (1755 - 1842) Rectangular framed, oval 19th Century, portrait miniature on ivory signed Rouzé, after Lebrun`s self portrait of 1782, `Self Portrait in a Staw Hat`, which depicts the artist holding a paint palette and brushes, in feathered hat. The original portrait was exhibited in Paris at the Salon de la Correspondance in 1782 and now resides in a French private collection. The National Gallery in London however owns an autograph replica, which was once believed to be the original prior to cleaning. s.s.11.6cm x 9cm, with frame, 18.2cm x 15.4cm.
Two portrait miniatures on ivory, one rectangular framed, signed, `Vittoré`, c.1840, showing a lady in red satin dress with ringleted hair and pearl head band, the other showing an oval portrait of a girl with long loose hair in blue dress and headband after John Comerford`s portrait of Mary Tighe (1772 - 1810) Comerford took the original composition from a portrait by George Romney, although he omitted the white turban. The miniature was later engraved by both Scriven and Caroline Watson, being used for the frontispiece of Mary Tighe`s posthumous publication of `Pysche`, 8cm x 6cm and 8.5cm x 6cm, (2).

Provenance: Christies, South Kensington, 19th March, 2002, sale no. 9339, lot no. 38. Exhibited: Hanover, Kestner-Gesellschaft, Bildnisminiaturen Aus Riedersächsischem Privatbesitz, 1918, no. 446 (lent by Dr. Leo Catzenstein, Hanover).
An early 18th Century oval portrait miniature of a gentleman, head and shoulders fullface, wearing a full bottomed wig, red coat and waistcoat, and white stock, on copper, 6.4 x 4.8 cm (2 1/2 x 1 7/8 in.). A label identifies the sitter as Captain Thomas Dalyell of Craigforth and Lingo (1700-1785) at the age of 25.
