A late 17th-century Royal portrait ring, the plain gold ring mounted with an oval miniature portrait of King William and Queen Mary, glazed with rock crystal faceted at the border, size I ½ (with sizing bar), with case marked for J. Hancock, 45 Piccadilly, Manchester Provenance: To be sold with a copy of a catalogue for an exhibition Parliament and the Glorious Revolution: 1688-1988, held at the Banqueting House, Whitehall, July-October 1988. The ring was exhibit no. 18 and described as Gold finger ring, the bezel containing a miniature of William and Mary under faceted crystal, said to have been presented to Jean Stuart Campbell, Lady-in-Waiting to Queen Mary. A miniature on ivory of Brigadier General Alexander Pope, half length in full dress, 4½” x 3¼”, gilt inner frame, on ebony 7” x 6” overall; ink written note on back “Portrait of Brigadier Genl Pope who commanded the left wing Cavalry at the battle of Chillianwallah (1849) where he was wounded and subsequently died from his wounds. He married my grandmother (name unclear) who died at Bath about 1890. See Alison’s Europe, Vol VII, page 102. 19th Nov 1906” with a recent additional note that Pope led the 6th Light Cavalry. An early 19th century portrait miniature, probably on ivory, reputedly Captain Thomas Troubridge (1758-1807). Troubridge commanded the ship Culloden at the Battle of Cape St Vincent 1797, going on to serve as Commander in Chief, East Indies Station during the Napoleonic wars. The portrait is in a decorated brass frame, 8cm x 6cm.
Two miniature biscuit porcelain models of baskets, early 19th century, one inscribed 'Cocker Derby' for George Cocker, a small Jasperware plaque modelled with the profile portrait of a woman, and a glass medallion decorated to the reverse with the portrait of a Chinaman, 6cm max. (4) The Jasperware plaque with paper collection labels for the Rose-Ellis Collection and for E Montagu.
