Two Continental porcelain miniature tea services 19th century, one comprising a coffee pot and cover, milk jug and sucrier, all painted with scenes of children playing on a gilt ground, the other comprising a coffee pot and cover and a sucrier painted with panels of children's faces on a gold ground, a miniature Sèvres-style cabinet cup painted with fruit, a Nast cabinet cup with a Classical profile portrait, a Vienna coffee can and cover painted en grisaille with a maiden being spied on, and a Vienna cup and saucer decorated with large vine leaves, the cup faintly inscribed 'Amitie', damages and repairs, 14cm max. A group of seven silhouette miniature portraits, believed to be ancestors of the Mansel-Carey, including an oval George III, portrait of Rev. Matthew Arnold, BD fellow of Corpus Christi College Oxford, December 1816, four years before his death aged 35, drowned in Stokes Bay Hampshire, with handwritten text verso, and printed account of his death, sight size 7.9 by 6.4cm, mounted, glazed in rectangular, ebonised frame, 14.6 by 12.2cm, together with six other 19th century and later portraits, including two later copies. A George V oval portrait miniature of Spencer Lort Mansel Mansel-Carey, half length, watercolour, unsigned with gilt metal frame, Spencer Lort Mansel Mansel-Carey of 'Chesterton' High Street, Uppingham, fought and died in WWII as a Second Lieutenant of 9th Battalion Devonshire Regiment, he died of his injuries after being hit during a bombardment on 24/02/1916 ironically near Mansel Copse, a few months before the battle of the Somme, 6.8 by 8.5cm.

RARE: CANINE PORTRAIT PIN BY JOHN WILLIAM BAILEY, mounted with a circular portrait of a greyhound 9mm diameter and signed J W Bailey to the reverse, the pin 80mm long, John William Bailey (1831-1914) was a painter of enamel miniatures who specialised in portraits of dogs. Bailey exhibited in the Royal Academy and his works are now within the V&A. He trained under William Essex (1784-1869) who is the artist responsible for the miniature set into lot 1302
