A WWI group to Lieutenant-Colonel E. McFarlane, Gloucestershire Regiment:/1914-15 Star (Capt. E. McFarlane. Glouc. R.)/British War and Victory Medals with M.I.D. oakleaves (Lt. Col. E. McFarlane.), very fine, with dress miniature awards/Note: Lieutenant-Colonel Evan McFarlane lived at Withington House, Andoversford, Gloucestershire. He served on the Western Front with the Gloucestershire Regiment and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 17 March 1915 (6th Bn), temporary Major with the Bn on 14 August 1915 and seconded to the Northumberland Fusiliers on 19 May 1917. Y Peter Paul Lens (1714-1750)- a portrait miniature on ivory of a young woman, wearing yellow dress, blue background, signed P Lens, image 4.5cms high, pendant gilt metal case, 6cms high including loop. Condition Report: Unexamined out of case but looks to be in good condition- mild wear to extremities of case from handling and use suspension hoop possibly repaired, glass to edges of front is bevelled- by hand- and slightly uneven. Y 19th century English school, portrait miniature on ivory of a young woman in a white dress, paste set frame with blue enamelled reverse, image approximately 7.9cms high, frame 9.5cms high overall. Condition Report: generally good condition- slight fading, some dirt behind glass- reverse of frame with tarnishing, frame is sealed. The paste insets seem all to be cut in the same style which suggests that they are all original to the frame. As they are paste, and soft, a large percentage are showing some wear to the raised crowns. Whether the foil backing to their reverse has rubbed or been prepared differently- some are showing a copperish colour. Condition Report Disclaimer

Provenance; purchased from Christine Archibald New York- original receipt states that the frame contains a Burch trade card- case unopened. Condition Report: Colours have muted from sunlight and with some fading- case with typical wear from handling Small oval area top the left of his face catches the light from different angles as a slightly lighter colour- this may be water ingress- or a reaction of the paint to the surface over time?
