Christian Friedrich Zincke (German, c.1683-1767) Portrait of Sir J Bernard, bust-length, in a blue coat miniature on ivory, oval 4.8 x 4cm Christian Friedrich Zincke was a renowned German miniature painter. Trained under the guidance of his father, and later under influential artists such as Boit, Zincke established himself as a prominent figure in 18th-century portraiture after moving to England. One of his most notable contributions to the art world was his exceptional use of the colour blue. He developed a distinctive palette that brought vibrancy and depth to his miniatures, setting them apart from his contemporaries. His blue hues, rich and luminous, were particularly admired for their clarity and intensity, adding a lifelike quality to his subjects' eyes and garments.
